We last left off with my confusion of whether or not to 'back-fill' my cabin with a set of quality 6.5" coaxials OR to leave it vacant and invest in the Infinity Basslink (200watt 10" Sub w/ built in Class D Amp).
I went with the Basslink.
Wired the feed to my Amp and instantly complemented my Alpine components. Ahhhh...the sound of clean bass couldn't be any sweeter!
Best of all, the little box fits on the left corner of my trunk.
If you're like me, an everyday driver who needs trunk space for practical reasons, but when the weekend hits, you want some 'boom boom' for personal enjoyment. This is the perfect solution.

Glad to hear you got your lower register

AnGe,

Glad to hear you got something to fit your needs, I realized many want a lower end in their car without the sacrifice of their trunk. The reputation that Infinity has, is the Basslink out performs the "Tubes" that many opt for
to save space.

Now that you have a tight bass in you car that must make all the difference in the world listening to your favorite tunes.

BTW did you pick that up at Carmedia1?

Good Luck,

Dave aka ratranch

Hi Dave

Yes, I ordered mine from Carmedia1, $256 shipped (UPS Ground), price listed elsewhere are +$400-! Since I live the next state over from Carmedia1, the Basslink was delivered to me overnight

Congrats on your sub, Ange. Now you and I have to do a little sound off when I get my system finished.

I, too, am without rear speakers. I like the idea of more bass in the cabin. Now, when I ride in cars with rear speakers, I find them distracting and I'm glad I took mine out. The only downside is that, for rear passngers to hear the music, I have to turn it it up pretty high...then those same rear passengers get rattled to death by bass. Screw 'em, that's why they ride in back.

Anyway, exactly how thick is the basslink when mounted. If it's less than 8" I want to put one behind the seat in my finaces 95 Nissan Pickup.

Dimension of the Basslink is 14.5" ht x 12.5" width x 8" depth (or thickness).

That's great that you found something to your liking Ange. Hmm. I wonder how the basslink compares to my 10" RF Punch DVC. Your basslink is getting fed twice the power of my punch. hmm. I'll have to check it out next time.

Re: I've come prepared...

If I installed a basslink in my car would I need to get a new battery or would I run ok? I have no other amps except for the small one in my head unit.

I'd highly recommend quality brand battery whenever there's amp or sub involved. I have Optima Yellowtop, best battery available so I never had to encounter that problem. For the Basslink, best thing to do is to call up customer service at Crutchfield and they'd be able to tell you.
www.crutchfield.com

and IF you should decide to buy the Basslink, buy it from www.carmedia1.com to get the lowest price.

What amp did you wire the sub to? I thought that the Basslink comes with a built in amp.

Yes, Basslink comes w/ built in Class D Amp but you still need to identify its power source. I would either have to run a power feed thru the cabin and to the battery up front or just tap into the Sony Amp I have already in my trunk for power. I just got lazy and wired it to the existing amp, still the same concept.

A 200 watt amp isnt gonna make much of an impact on your battery. You can even run 10 guage to power it.

Im going to get a basslink and a four channel amp to power my kappa coaxials. The power range is 5 to 60 so I should probably get a 50x4 amp, correct? I'm new to amps so could you explain how I would go about installing all of this. I figured I would just install like I had two amps, but you said you went though an existing amp? I'm confused. Also, does the basslink have rca connectors to go to the receiver? Do all 4 channel amps have 2 patch cords? I only have two sets of preamps on my receiver so If the amp has 2 patch cords what would I do with the patch cord from the basslink? Lots of questions, thanks in advance if you can answer them for me.

hey, I have my cd changer in the trunk. Will the basslink make the changer skip? there's no anti-skip mech in the cd changer.
also, bang for buck...anything better? It's $220 shipped on ebay. If there's something that hits harder (I want the "hit" and not the "boom"), give me specific examples so I can look them up. Thanx!

ive installed many of these this past summer. Suprisingly they put out alot of bass from such a small enclosure. They take up harldy any room and only require a 10 gauge power flo kit. You can either use high level inouts from your back speakers or run an rca from your head unit direct to it. Great buy if you ask me!

I had one of these installed after browsing the threads. I had them install an LPL in the dash too so I can adjust the gain on the Basslink (think Techmaster to Techno to Miles Davis). I can adjust the base to the appropriate levels at will. It is loud enough, that if I have my back seats down I can make my ears feel pain (literally). I'm just looking for a way to port the back seat of my 2k Max to provide for more flow into the cabin. Hopefully, porting the back seat will reduce some rattle.

I did Peel-N-Seal my entire trunk before it was installed. Of course, with the Basslink, it made my non-bose speakers sound like crap. I'm in the market to install a new head unit, speakers and 4 channel amp next.

I don't think a person could do wrong with the basslink. Its possible to have good booming or clean base without losing the trunk. The LPL **** in one of the knockout panels in the cab ($35 dollar part) lets me adjust the base according to the music.

Keep us posted, I'd like to see that install. I've never seen it done before.

I also purchased a Basslink on EBay for $219 shipped. The seller was CarStereo2000, one of the best sellers I've ever dealt with. He responds to all your emails promptly.

I was thinkin about picking up a remote gain controller...it's like $30 shipped. Anybody got one and have an opinion on that either way?

The person i bought my 'link from is an avid member of the SoundDomain forums. He had two of them installed in his Civic. He said it sounded pretty good but he had problems having both Basslink's firing simultaneously.

Inspite of all the equipment he had installed he could still distinctly notice that one link was firing a split second later than the other.

In the end he decided to let go of the Basslink (I got one for $160 shipped) and go all-pro.

How does this sound compared to a normal box with 1 or 2 10 inch woofers? What kind of music do you listen to? Does it hit the low notes that are played with Rap music?

Given the adjustments available on the Basslink you can contour the bass according to your tastes. Mine is currently set at 60hz on the x-over, no bass boost (+/- 3 on the dial, mine is at the middle) and roughly halfway on the volume. My headunit is set at +1 on the bass to let the main speakers pump a bit more midbass (the Basslink is spliced through the rear speakers)

I listen to a variety of music - rap,r&b,jazz, rock, pop, dance, techno. I can definitely feel the punch at the settings i have. Also, if turned all the way up i personally want to get out of the car already.

I'd say the performance is in between an active bazooka tube and a good quality 10" sub+amp combo. With more points away from the bazooka.

You hit it right on the buttom about the in-bet. bazooka and 10" sub/amp analogy.

Don't expect great things if you listen to Hip-Hop 80%+ of the time. It's not made to cater those who only care about driving bass around the block. I listen to everything from pop, dance, house, r&b and 'southern rap' and the Basslink served me well thus far

BassLink can't be compared to good ole box. 200w is just not cutting it. Two good 6x9's in the rear deck can do the job just as fine. What I would like to do is to sell what I have now and replace my speakers..then custom built enclosure..

Coming from both (several sets of Infinity's, Cerwin Vega's, RF's and Kenwood's) the Basslink is definitely better than a couple of 6x9's.

Again, it's not as good as a quality sub+amp+box combo but it's a lot better than other sub packages from Bazooka and others.

Also, comparing to lower quality sub's i'd rather take the Basslink any day.

I don't think one could consciously say the Basslink sounds like a pair of 6x9s!

The basslink has RCA or line level inputs, plus high level inputs. It also has power-on capabilities listening to the high level inputs. My system is ran off the stock head unit, with the intent to add a 4 channel amp and good quality speakers in the cab later.

With an LPL I can tweak it on the fly($25), I can bump the tunes enought to hurt the ears inside. How much louder would one have to go? The amp itself is mated to the woofer which has a radiator on the back of the box. It is also servo controlled so it can adjust output to maintain sound clarity/quality.

I find this more than adequate since i didn't loose more than 2 cubic feet of trunk space (max).
