Good Alarm System

Hi,

I was wondering what the best alarm systems there are for a 6th gen? I'm willing to spend around $500.

Apologies if this was already included in previous threads.

Thanks.

just put a 2 way compustar piece in my fiancee's car, and its great. there are other great brands out there, everyone acts like DEI is the best and only thing since sliced bread, its just not the case. look around at reviews and such...

Thanks Guys.

I hear both the Compustar and Viper 791XV are both very good.

Any ideas on which compustar model is good?

Noone acts like its the best, although its been proven with Decades of R&D behind it. Firstech/Compustar hasnt been around long enough to prove a thing to me. Furthermore all of their units are quite bulky and remotes dont seem to have a long life expectancy.

code alarm has been around for almost 30 years, they make great units, and they're very well known for their reliability. the pieces that aren't made by Audiovox, of course.

lol i know that. im just throwing out other companies that are good as well.

I'm not saying DEI is a bad product, but everyone on multiple forums says they're the 'best', and that you should use NOTHING else. theres other companies out there, thats all.

I installed code alarm products for about a year when circuit city got rid of DEI. I HATE code alarm, we've never had so many stupid issues with alarms in my life. Issues with programming the remote, false alarms, random stupid crap. DEI and ONLY DEI.

Personally for myself as well as customers..I will only stick with DEI..Code has a Much higher failure rate along with all the Audiovox products.

DEIs service, repair, support, etc surpasses any of the others available now.

::sigh::

Once again - you guys prolly delt with the audiovox-made codealarm pieces. There are currently 3 units made by codealarm that they wont let Audiovox touch (yet). My boss has been installing them for decades, and has seen the least amount of issues with them compared to every other brand, i myself have installed dozens and dozens, and barely ever see any come back..

My only real beef with DEI is that every company they take over, seems to go downhill. PPI, ORION, AstroFlex, Polk, its sad. all these company's suck compared to what they used to be before DEI took them over.

On the installation side, if you arent a DEI dealer, they won't give you the damn time of day. they're so rude, its freaking ridiculous. call for tech support, first thing they ask for is your acct. number, if you dont have one, they fcking hang up on you. It doens't get much more unprofessional than that.

No sir, not all audiovox made.

Notice what you mentioned are all audio/video companies. Not security. In which case I completely agree..they go to shit. Security wise, theyve been the leader for some time now. Their primary competition (a decade + ago) was Clifford. Until they had financial problems and DEI bought them. Still staying strong and I have nearly zero of the Clifford products come back.

Now your Really nitpicking..how can you expect a company that you give nothing to, spend time helping you? Personally I as well as most other dealers would be pissed if we found that some guy or non DEI dealer called for support and we (Paying Dealers) have to sit on hold. You can however get support from a consumer point by clicking a different button on the menu prompt. Otherwise it even askes you prior to pressing anything if your a dealer..

we're trying to help the customer out, not take the time away from other dei dealers, thats all.

oh and Astroflex does security, as well as tech-sheet programs.

but as I said they have a direct support line for consumers as well. In which case you can be directed to that one without a dealer number.

Yes I know..

Both Clifford and Viper were mentioned, so the DEI could be either.
