hey I just realized that only my tweeters are hitting on my components. i went back and checked everything out and cant figgure out what the **** is wrong with it. I checked the in and outs the tweeter outs were getting power but the mid/speaker outs weren't getting anything. any ideas about whats happening and how i can fix it or should i bring it to a shop.

 

so the output for the mid on the crossovers isn't giving out any signal? how much power are you running to them?

 

Is it happening with both component sets, or just one side? If both, do you have an amp hooked up? Does the amp have a high-pass filter on it that's set very high? You can check to make sure that the woofer is working by hooking the speaker wire from the amp directly to the woofer.

You CANNOT run speakers off of the Preouts on a HU. You need to either add an amp or use the SPEAKER outputs. Are you SURE that you have them hooked to the preouts?

 

wait wait...so how is the entire thing wired up now? you can't just plug in RCA's into the crossovers...

and yes you'll need an amp to properly power your components.

 

my bad i worded that wrong i have preouts that I would use to run an amp on they are 5v pre outs i was trying to run them off the regular speaker outs and im having problems. could it be something with the crossover or is it just that I need to get a speaker amp. sorry for the confusion

Just as a test, wire the mids to the speaker outputs WITHOUT the crossover in place.

Please go to a shop. You don't know enough for us to help you. You need to learn terminology before we can explain anything.

 

ok ill go to a shop if i have to but i went out and connected my mid type r's directly to the speaker wire and they worked so now i think i probably need to get an amp but what size amp should i get for these and when i get it I'm going to be using my rear preouts running rca's to the amp then running the outs to the crossover but how many channels should i get on the amp do i need 2 or 4 i would assume two channels would be fine but im not sure i haven't done components before but i have done subs and amps on my and many friends cars so I am pretty sure that I know the terms and can do this im just not exactly sure i got the components without a box and no paper instructions of any kind so i can only go from what I can see and read on the speakers and crossovers.

 

Ok so i went out and nearly froze to death plymouth isn't very warm tonight and we have some snow still on the ground ... anyway i went out and tried to see if i could figgure out anything more and I cant but both the mid range speakers and tweeters for both sides seem to be working fine when wired dierctly to the speaker wire but when plugged into the crossover the mid range stops working. I beleive i need an amp I'm curious as to what size amp I need. I think if i get a 50(w)x2(outs) amp I should have enough for the two components when i get this will I have enough to get the sound i paid for with these components.

 

If the woofers are playing fine hooked up directly to the speaker outputs of the head unit, then you must be wiring up the crossover wrong. There definitely won't be enough loss through the crossover to cause the working woofer to not play at all. Can you take a picture of the crossover and how you have it connected and post it on here? Did you buy these used? If so, do the crossovers have a clear case or removable case so that you can make sure nothing's fried/burnt?

As for the tweeters, you probably want to avoid hooking them up directly to the speaker output of the head unit. Tweeters do not like full range signals and can blow somewhat easily if they try to play low frequencies.

Also, you DON'T seem to know the terminology. You make NO distinction between line-level and speaker-level communications, and you generally just ramble. And while we're at it, why would you use the REAR RCA outs to send signal to your FRONT component amp?

Now, back to the topic- The reason I wanted for you to run the mid directly was to determine whether there was anything wrong with the mid itself. It seems that there is not. Next, you need to go from the HU to the crossover and to the mid- but don't connect the tweeter. See how that sounds and get back to us.

If you want me to tell you to go get an amp, then go get a 2 channel amp with 50w-100w per channel with a built-in crossover, unless your HU has one already. This will be a DIFFERENT kind of crossover than the one that came with your Type-Rs, so don't ask.

 

You CLEARLY want us to tell you to go get an amp. YOU NEED AN AMP. GO BUY ONE! MAKE SURE THAT IT IS BIG AND EXPENSIVE!

What you need to do is purchase something that puts out about 100,000 watts rms, this my personal opinion.

In all reality what you really need to do is just take your plymouth to a reputable shop.
