About Caps

i have a few friends that use to install car stereo's. they all told me you need a cap because it suplies the power your amp needs when it does a hard bass hit and your battery cant suply the power that fast. well after some reading online i see that the cap will add such a small amount of power that you might as well put a 9 volt battery on because it will give you more of a benifit. also the only significant thing the cap will do is put strain on your electrical system when the strain ends. is this true? wondering if i wasted 40 bucks on a cap that will do more bad then good. and am i better off not using the cap? i only have a kicker 700.5 amp so its not a lot of ampers.

haha, I completely agree. I have a cap, but it's buried deep in the bowels so I never bothered to take it out, but it's useless. With the cap and a red top battery I still get the light dimming at a stop light under full load.

Off topic...well only kinda. Friend called today "Hey man, you are pretty good with installing audio. I just bought a cap from a guy and I want to know if you can install it for cheap" My response "Yeah I can do it heck, I'll do it for free. Just stop by around 4pm" He shows up with the cap, I take it out of the passenger seat and go throw it in the dumpster by my building. I then brought him inside to maxima.org and showed him about the Big 3. All in all did my duty today, one less cap owner out on the streets.
