Meh, personally not feeling it. It looks like it's got alot going on cosmetically(too much on the face) But I'll still give it a A for features.

retarded how its only 2v preouts when they have all that empty space behind the faceplate.

the thing would be a lot better if it had a cd slot, or if like the front folded down and you could plug the ipod in like a cassette..

Alpines answer to the no cd was, 'add a changer', I partly agree, you'd really only get this thing if you only use the ipod.

Its suppose to be 50,000 (literally) times faster than the ipod full speed Alpine decks, ive played with it, and it is pretty much instant.. no lag whatsoever.

Overall,

low preout voltage sucks, but if all you ever use is your ipod (5th gen only to take full advantage), and dont car about tunability then this is the deck for you. If you can get over the way it looks, that is..

WTF, how can a headunit these days NOT have a cd slot?

As far as the above HU goes, it has the same problem the new Pioneer HU's have- they throw that hugenormous ugly azz round thing in the middle, it belongs on the side...

rest of it looks ok though.

well, Alpine makes 6 other decks that take cds. so in all fairness, what difference does it make? its just one deck... it could have been made better though, you're right.

The deck was designed with apple engineers and their only objective was to have the best and seamless ipod integration , thats all they cared about for it.

That's all well and good, but how much harder would it have been to stick a cd slot in there? Even if all you listen to is ipod BS, wouldn't you still want to have the CAPABILITY to be able to play the most popular form of musical recording device still used today?

I agree completely, it was kind of silly..

When asked the same question, they (alpine reps) told us that Apple sold over 100 million ipods since they first came out, and they believe that If you have an ipod, this is the deck to have because 9 out of 10 people that have one (ipod and an ipod capable alpine deck) dont even use cd's anymore...

It's already out

Pretty sweet, but yeah the CD isn't quite outdated yet, and a player would be nice.

$400 and I can't even play a CD? If I had an old tape player w/ an aux-in I could do the same thing for less than $20...

Oh well, at least the screen looks kewl.

Well alot of people are using there ipods rather than cds so I kinda understand could also be a test to see how many people buy these and base things off that.

Would have been nice to have some decent processing abilities thrown in...... I think Alpine could have had a very good thing here.....too bad.

ALPINE head unit

I've had this new unit for about a week. Display looks great, works great with IPOD, but I do have issues with it. Not having cd isn't that big of a deal. I don't like some of the user interfaces for other options. For ex: picking a preset memory station, you have to hit preset button, then use jog dial to scroll to station you want (each turn of job goes down 1 station), then hit enter. So, to go to station 6, you have to hit buttons SIX TIMES. That is ridiculous. Also, the enter button is very small and is required for about everyting you do. Yet, the center button of the jog dial is HUGE and much easier to press, yet hardly used to do anything.

it's also tougher than it should be to go in and change audio settings in the menu and submenus. It's also kind of goofy the way you pick a setting, then hit enter to go to subsetting, hit enter to make change, then enter to go back to setting, then back to back out. Just seems like a lot of steps. I think the engineers could have made it much more user friendly.

For $399 , should have come with remote.
I also don't like that ALPINE doesn't let users customize their own wallpaper. Why not, makes no sense? Alpine ins't chargine for wallpaper on the site, so why not let people customize it?

This new Alpine Head Unit

Now that i've had it for almost 2 weeks, I realize how I don't miss the CD.

Why have a CD when you can put dozens of cd's full of music on a thumb drive and plug it into the headunit? The thumb/zip drive works just as good (interface through head unit and music quality) as a cd and holds 100 times the music.

Not that I don't have issues with it....see prior post from earlier in the week.

I remember telling my daughter that I would have never bought it w/o the CD slot but now I realize that I was wrong, totally not needed.
