well...where do i begin...

the unit looks and performs great...much better than the pioneer premiers that i've previously owned. the settings and such are a bit confusing at first, but eh...i got the hang of it pretty fast. i don't know why people said eclipse decks are hard to navigate...it's really not that bad. there's are a lot more options in terms of sound adjustment, and you can tune it to your heart's content. great product, and i should've got this deck long ago.

that said...ran into some issues. the damn metra kit is preventing the faceplate to fold down freely. unlike the pioneer which just slides downward...this eclipse deck seems to go out a little bit, THEN drops down. it's hitting part of the dash kit. if i press in towards the middle of the kit, then the faceplate lowers just fine. i gotta think of a fix for this...

the other issue, is that i think my passenger side mid might be blown. i took a DMM to it, and resistance measured only .7 ohm! measured the driver side, and it was at a healthy 3.7 ohm. like i told don over the phone...my dealer better be able to warranty this without any hassle...

anyhow...i love the deck!

edit: confirmed that the mid is blown. took the door panel off and took it out. i can hear the coil rubbing within the gap when i move the cone. it's done for...

I wonder if that USB input has enough power to it, to power a 160GB USB drive... I really want to replace my Bose with that unit and Infinity speakers. Just wish I could afford that unit.

Maybe a 2.5 inch...

For budget, ive been looking at this...

http://www.crutchfield.com/S-BySfaed...=020DXZ775#Tab

I think it would integrate well with a harddrive, not to mention as a 24 bit DA converter, three way capable with bandpassable on two of the three sets of channels, and time alignment, even plays AAC for 300 bucks authorized

Nearly half the price of the 5100, I think its an absolute STEAL

Looks good. Price is just about what I'd be willing to shell out. I wonder if anyone here has any experience with this unit and can comment on quality? Actually, I'll start another thread when I have cash I've thread-jacked enough, already.

well...a section of the voice coil came unwound, and was hitting the back of the cone around the former (which would explain the tinging sound i've been hearing). the mids are being sent back today.

now with both mids gone and just the tweeter still working, i'm more amazed on how low they can actually go. it's sorta complemention the rear fills nicely...

they're going to send me a pair of matching mids. they didn't want me to have a broken in mid, and a brand new one.

dunno which line they were, but it had the double surround on the mid, and with those thick fibers embedded into the cones.
