basically comes down to whether you want Navi or not, and a few extra tuning options on the Pioneers side. in Alpines defense, there has been a few noise issues with the newer Pioneers lately... specifically the D3 and the 880PRS.

Well everyone here knows Im not a fan of current offerings from Alpine. With that being said you need to clarify your intentions. If using Navi, then Id say Alpine is the most expensive of the bunch and your speaking of budget...

A full navi system from Alpine isn't expensive. The new IVA-W205 has the dock built in the double din unit. With the W205 and the new Blackbird for it the whole sustem will cost $1400 plus tax, that's not bad for a complete unit. The pro to the unit is you can use the Blackbird in other cars. I have the W200 and the external docking station for the old Blackbird and I absolutely love it. My wife doesn't like audio mods so getting the portable Blackbird unit I can use stand alone in her SUV is great but when she doesn't need it I just dock it up to my W200 and I have full controls. My 2 cents.

$1400 is at a Circuit City, Best Buy, or at a local authorized Alpine dealer but you can get it around $1100 online new. I still say the docking station is what sets the W205 apart.

I thought I remember'd you saying that about Alpine. Navi isn't that much of a necessity currently. The car already has one (OEM), and if I want a better one I can get the adaptable/portable unit that is offered with this system. That's something I can add down the line.

Mainly, Ipod connectivity, SAT Radio, DVD, ddin, and touchscreen are the main concerns. With the option of adding Bluetooth and a rear view camera in the future.

These 2 units I can get away with around/under 1k, possibly way under if I don't care about the warranty and get it from an online vendor, but that may not be the route taken.

Right and right! I don't need the Blackbird immediately, but do like the option of being able to purchase it for a complete package later on.

1400 is pushing it a little much right now for just a headunit. Also budgeting for the Sat Radio, Ipod harness, component speakers up front, replacement for the rear sides and rear deck, amp, and power wires. If it was just the headunit alone to be upgraded, then I would definately splurge more for it.

Then my vote would most definately go to the AVIC. And yes it can be had substantially less than a grand here.

If these are the main concerns, id go with the Alpine, the Ipod control from the Avic sucks, its a pain to use. The Alpine is probably faster (ipod control) as well.

The others are like the same between the two..

Can you pm me a quote for both shipped if you supply them? Not sure whom exactly you carry in terms of being authorized dealer. Thanks Don.

Bestbuy around here has it, but it was enclosed in a plastic cover on the display. They wouldn't let me play.
