need head unit help

hey guys hows it going, I bought the Scosche install kit for my new head unit and I can't remove the mounting brackets off the stock head unit to use with the install kit. Its a bit frustrating, I already freed the heads of two of the screws(I guess those aren't coming out now) and broke the tip of one of the screw drivers, and a drill doesn't help either. seems like the screws are rusted(but from where?) in or something. any advice?

use a 10MM socket wrench (i think it's a 10mm) and TIGHTEN IT to break it loose. Then it should be broken loose.

they are flat head screws, not nut style screws. but if they were nuts it wouldn't be a problem.
if your thinking of the 4 screws that hold the unit into the car, its not those. its the 6 screws, each side, on the left and right of the unit that hold it and the climate control together that need to be removed.

Try tightening first til it cracks, then loosen with ease. Make sure the driver is in there firmly, even tap it a bit with a mallet to confirm.

that sounds like a lot of work, only leading to more problems when I have to turn it back to stock with broken screws lodged in there or metal chipping stock in the unit from the drill.

On a side note, does the Metra kit use the factory brackets? or any of the factory pieces to install a new head unit. even though its black I might as well buy that kit then.

i used a titanium bit and a powerful drill on mine, came off with ease..

others though, yeah just tap a good driver with a hammer lightly and try to break first.

the last screw you can actually twist the bracket a bit around the radio and it will break the screw loose.

thanks guys, but no amount of force or pressure is making them loose, i guess my only option left now is to drill them out or try the impact screw driver.
i thought if i used the metra kit now i would avoid having to use the brackets, but that too uses the brackets.

Using the Metra kit will still use the brackets, but once theyre removed the first time everytime after is cake.
