Surround ointment

Well, I'm replacing my rear bose speakers with slightly newer (used) ones.

My question: is there anything i can apply to the surrounds to prevent them from sun damage? Maybe some kind of ointment or oil?

The previous speakers were ruined becasue the surrounds dried up and blew out when I was listening to The Roots.

Should have gone aftermarket.

AND no these are not like baseball gloves that you can apply some type of oil to to accomplish whatever you're trying to do.

Ehhh, I got 4 bose speakers for 85 bucks so if you can find me a better deal after market I will stand corrected. Plus i dont have to mess with rewiring or new amps or anything like that.

and I'm trying to condition the rubber on the surrounds.... if you can do it to other rubber, why not a speaker surround?

Look closely, all the 4th gen bose speakers I've dealt with have FOAM surrounds not rubber.

yeah i just replaced my rears the other weekend, (non - bose) same problem, rubber surround dried up and ripped to $hit, i put in a paid of home made woofers and midranges, sounds very very nice, plays a lot better and louder

basically thing u can do to save the surrounds, just keep the grille on to keep some sun away, but u still need the sound to get thru right so i dont see a way of making a shield

Maybe you should get your windows tinted? Or take some thin black material and put them on the inside of the grill. Not much you can actually do with the surrounds though maybe clean them carefully but any foam or rubber is going to breakdown over time. Even tires no matter how well they are stored will dry rot given enough time.
