So i'm in a little delimma...

Got the chance to play with some Hertz Hi-Energy HV165 mids as my Rainbow Germanium mids gets warrantied. They sound pretty damn good I must say, but I'm guessing the crossover points are a bit off, since the transition isn't as smooth as the Germ mid. Off axis response seems a bit better too thanks to the phase plug, and the high efficiency of the drivers (94 dB) is a nice addition as well. Basically I have Germanium crossovers, Cal25 tweeters, and the HV165 mids in my car at the moment. Anyhow, I really like how the Hertz mid sound...it's a bit warmer than the aluminum mid found on the Germanium line.

So....

Should I go with the Hi-Energy component set? The only thing holding me back, is that I love the Cal25 silk dome tweet. I'm not sure how the tweet sounds that comes with the Hertz set.

Thoughts?

Have you played with the crossovers settings at all since throwing in the hertz mids?

This is why you should have gotten a 4 channel amp and a cd7100 so you could just go active and it won't matter.

I wont sell it to you unless you go active. That mid should not be used with the Germ crossover.

same as don said. if possibly take them off the reservation. finally stepped up to actively run my mids...VERY big difference. If youve been just running the mids off the xovers i say give em a chance without the passives. Usually my wife doent notice differences. finally rode in the car after a week and her and my daughter thought id purchased a new toy. only change was finally losing the passive. kept it on the tweets for the protection, but really a huge diff and the mids came Alive.

*But now im looking for a new toy lol, although im keeping the 465s* my radio sale fell through..
