Factory Alarm Indicator

I just replaced the fusible link on my positive battery cable and my battery. My factory alarm never worked before but it does now. The security light in the dash comes on as soon as I cut the car off. Is the light suppose to continue to flash until I put the key in or does it cut off after a while. This is on a 90 SE.

I know that on my 2000 the security light blinks red as soon as I turn the car off, and keeps blinking until I start it up. Now, I can't comment on the frequency versus armed/unarmed, but it does light up if unarmed (like if I shut it off and sit in the car).

A quick glance, at the manual, usually solves this dilema.

Same thing as a fuse, too much current travels through it, it will melt. What ever is connected to it will not get any more juice.
