Upgrading OEM alarm ?

So I have been looking around for an alarm system for my 01 Max, I do not need remote start because my car is a 5spd and on top of that I don't drive my car in the winter so I don't have the need for a remote start.

I looked around and found a Viper 330V on Viper's website. It says it upgrades keyless entry systems. Would this be something worth installing on my car ?

Things I would really like is-

long range with 2 way communication, because I park far away from my condo so up to 1 mile range would be ideal. But this technology is on the very expensive remote start Cliffords and DEI alarms.

auto roll down for the windows, shock sensor, trunk poper. Thats all I really need. 330V sounds like it would do that via OEM remotes.

Can anyone help me out ?

I wish I had more information on this, but I dont. I am interested in the same things with the alarm. Except the auto roll down... 02s came with that, just not roll UP! KPTechnologies has that module BTW, but I don't know exactly what years they apply to.

Maximas, and a lot of other Nissans/Infinitis have a wire at the ecu that tells your aftermarket alarm brain that the car is in neutral for remote start. Works flawless 100% of the time, without ever the chance of starting the car in gear. This is how Don (Pearl96Max) installs them and warranties them.

Long range communication via the factory remote is impossible. One of the main reasons to go with aftermarket remotes, whether you get two-way or not, is the crappy range of the factory remotes, that gets worse over time.
That being said...any aftermarket system will have trunk pop and shock sensor. The window module is an add-on, and a bit expensive being that wires have to be run into each individual door.

The mile range, yes, is only available on nicer two-way systems. Even then, most local shops won't put the ones with remote start on a 5spd car, even though there are failsafe routes as said above, but tech sheets don't say this, so only nissan enthusiasts know. Do you have any way to find a good local installer who will do it on the side? i.e. I work at Circuit City but do installs on the side for forum members. Thats the best route to get all the features you want and a quality installation, which is key in alarm systems for longevity and avoiding problems.

Good luck
Kevin

There is a way to wire it with an aftermarket alarm to make it roll up. Don (pearl96max) did this for my car. PM him...maybe he'll sell you the info for a small fee.

I really do not want a remote start, its not needed where I live because this is really a 2.5 season car for me for the last 2 years. I have a winter beater that I drive around in so I don't need a remote start on this car.

All I really need is security with 2 way paging and long range so I know that someone is messn with my car.

Maybe I will put the remote start on my new Fit that I am getting for winter, but thats a big might.

I guess I will just buy a expensive 2 way pager system and install it myself. I am ASE master certified mechanic and deal with alot of electrical problems so alarm install should be a piece of cake considering I have all the manuals with wire diagrams for the cars I own.

Thanks for the info regardless.

As capable as you may be, just keep in mind you may be forfeiting your lifetime warranty.

Mike, you do not have to get an expensive do it all alarm. I know DEI sells at least one, if not more alarms (under the viper, clifford etc name) that have two way paging only, and no remote start. These are typically $100 or so less than the same alarm with remote start. I don't have time to look up the model number right now, but do some research on DEI's site, and I am sure you will find something that suits you, without the bells and whistles that you do not need.

Thanks for the info guys, I appreciate it. I will deff be upgrading the alarm on the Maxima, just sank 4K into mods (Quaife LSD, Brembo GT brake kit, clutch, EU ) and with a expensive sound system (but light) and turbo coming soon, I don't want anyone messing with my car.

I might get a remote start on my Fit thou....
