Looking for a little guidance on upgrading my security (evey little bit helps, right). Does it make more sense to just add on the CodeAlarm shock sensor to my factory keyless entry and can that be added to all doors? Can remote start be added to the factory system? Or should I just bite the bullet and get a new system. I've got a two hundred dollar credit to get me started at a pretty decent shop.

Look for the Viper 300 ESP. I sell it at my shop for $239.99 installed and add door locks for $30.00 more. It has shock, flash lights, starter kill, 2 remotes and a lifetime warranty. Shop around you might get it for about $200.00 installed if you schmooze the sales guy. Don't buy it at the first place you go. Shop around for the best price.

Can you still open the windows with it? Can remote start be added? Yeah, I never seem to buy from the first place I go. I also usually end up back at a shop that I've got to for a few things for the past few years. It's gotten to the point that they have beaten my best price and giving me a huge break on some installs lately. Thanks for the tip.

Alarm/ Rem. start

A VIPER 550ESP features both alarm and rem. start and will probably run you $400 or so. Maybe a little more if you are charged for doorlocks because to access them you need to run wires into driver's door.

You can add just a remote start without any problems. You will be best to have a 2nd remote, because typically the factory remote has crappy range and what is the point of remote starting your car from 10 ft. away? Many remote starts also have the capability to lock and unlock the doors.

I also agree that the VIPER 300 that was previously mentioned is a very good alarm by itself. Also the RATTLER300 is good.

All in all I suggest you look for an alarm and/or remote start made by DEI. I install them all day and rarely does one fail me. Plus they have a lifetime warranty, as will your labor if you have it profesionally installed at most places.
