Output of stock 4th-gen alt?
Can someone tell me how much the stock alternator will put out, in amperage measurement? Just curious to see how this compares to my draw...in my integ, the alt was like, max 60A, and the draw from my amp alone was a max 80A, not to mention other accessories running + 60x4 alpine, etc. Needless to say, the amp didn't get nearly enough juice as it needed, and my sub performed kind of lackluster to where it could have. Just want to see what our alt's put out to see if I should buy this new amp (mmats mini-D, something class D, a little more conservative with the draw) before I put everything in, or if it can wait a bit. Thanks!
The GXE and SE alternators put out 105 amperes. The GLE unit puts out 120 amperes. More important than the peak output, though, is the build quality and reliability. The Maxima alternators seem to be very strong. I've had no problems with mine. By comparison, GM's 105-ampere alternator is a piece of junk. Used in most GM cars, it runs very hot and burns out often. The units are very under-built, with 8mm bearings and no integral passive cooling (heat sinks). If you own a GM car, you'll change the alternator as often as you change your oil.

The stock 4th gen alt is a Hitachi 110 amp max. That's at about 3000 Engine RPM's. Unless you plan to go above 200 amps draw just on the stereo's amplifiers I would stick with the stock unit and a couple caps. The amps only draw max current for very short bursts. Most of music is reproduced at or near idle current.
