Has anyone heard the Alumapro Alchemy's? I'm shopping for a good sub, and I wanted these at first, but I wanted to know my options before I buy. Are there any others that you feel sound better?

www.jlaudio.com and look at the W3 series or their high end W7's that I'm starting to carry later on this month

www.bostonacoustics.com and look at the Competitor series and the Pro Series subs. Very clean sounding subs if you are looking for sound quality.

Let me clarify. I'm really trying to experiment into the aluminum sub market. I want Alumapro's but there is only one shop in DC that sells them, and all of the one that they have on display sound like crap, because they're not crossed over right. The people in the shop are too lazy to fix the problem, so I can't hear what these subs can really do. If anyone has heard these subs, can you please give me a description of how they sound? Maximadave, I'll make it a point to hear those W7s. Oh yeah, I used to own a Boston Acoustics 10" and that thing hit hard!!

I used to have alumapro subs in my old car. There a very good sounding sub. Nice and clean. I had the alusonics the where great at handling power. The alchemy's are a little power hungry with less output and may be a little more boomy if you listen close.

I have a alumapro alchamy 12" in my max. Its had a long life. I bought it off the internet used from some kid in texas for $55 C.O.D. It went in to a 94 accord with a autoteck800 amp and a mtx x-over set to about 80htz. It was in a 1.75' sealed box facing the rear. With an eclipse head unit. It sounded awsome. I had a 15" that was just tooo boomy. I like punk a lot and needed something that was able to move faster and keep up with the beat. I also like a lot of stuff like jummy buffet, garth brooks, etc stuff that you want a big bottom end BUT not a boomy sound. The aluma pro alchamy works great for me. Currently its in the 96 maxima. I have it set to fire through the ski pass threw. I tried it facing the back of the trunk but it hit too hard when I was listening to punk and talk radio (im a dork i like NPR). The auto teck is 400watts. Now im using the amp's x-over w/ the bass boost off. Still sounds awsome. I really like the sub a lot. Oh yea its in a 1.25 or 1.5' q-logic wedge box now.

Which shop in DC is the "authorized" dealer? Send Alumapro an email about how their subs sound in that shop. Some brands will react to negative feedback, some won't. I know a place in Winchester with Alumapro, Pro Audio. They are probably 10-20% cheaper than the place you are talking about.

If you decide on the Eclipse, let me know what the best price you've seen on them and I might be able to hook you up...

i've got one alchemy dual voice coil 12" sub right now. it sound very clean and hits real hard. i built the box to the exact specs and am running 600watts to just the sub rms. (phoenix gold zx600ti) i've had two jl12w6, which were also wonderful subs, but the alchemy still sounds cleaner. the eclipse subs are more power hungry and cost more.. i can get the alchemy 12" dvc for just 200 bux. i'm not sure if that's still a good price.. but don't pay more than 250 per sub. g'luck
