I was hoping to get some peoples advice on what amp I should buy and what the specs of the amp should be. Here is a list of the components that I want to power with my new amp:

-JL Audio 12W0 sub (125watts)
-Infinity Kappa Perfect 6.5" 2-way front and rear speakers (power handling 70watts)

I was looking to spend no more than $200 on the amp. Can anyone give me suggestions? Thanks,

Nathan

I am by no means a car audio expert, but I can tell you what my new system has. I just finished it last weekend, in fact. I bought two MA Audio amps on eBay, the M480i for $180, and the M180i for $125. The M480i is a 4 channel amp, 100W peak per channel. I'm powering my Polk ex402a fronts and dx9 rears with this amp. The M180i is 200W RMS and powers my Infinity Kappa 120.1se sub. For under $200, I think the MA Audio amp is great! I can crank up the volume and not hear any crackling, etc. You could power your JLs with 2 channels, then bridge the other 2 channels for the sub. However, it looks like that would be a little too much power for the sub that you've chosen.

Matz, thanks for the help. For my JL sub, would I need a 1 or 2 channel amplifier? The sub can handle 125watt max.

they handle more than that. my friend, who bought them from me (originally mine from my first car..JL 12w0-8ohm wired mono for a 4 ohm load) put a kicker ZR360 on it, they just kept singing. then we hooked up the kicker to my MA audio MAW-615(6ohm DVC 15") and damn, blew me away, then i had to put my rockford 250a2 back on.
as far as MA audio goes, i'm getting an MA audio M680i for my sub and using my rockford amp on some MA synergy 6.5" comps. now all i need is money.

Go with the JL 500/1. its a 500 watt mono block sub amp and kicks butt over anything else out there for the price. For your mids and highs go with the JL 300/4, it produces 75 watts continous watts by 4. I have this one in my Max with Eclipse Point Source speakers front and back and are power hungry. The JL amps are loud and clean. Let me know if you are interested, I manage a car audio shop in so cal.

Maximadave, thanks for your help. Yes, I'm interested in the JL 300/4 for the highs and mids. That would be perfect since my 4 Infinity Kappa's can handle 75watts. Can you email me at: stricklymaximas@hotmail.com with more info about the amp and the price you can give me. Thanks,

Nathan

double plugs:

JL's almost always take at least 2x the power theyre rated for. I fed my gf's w1's 400w .. many others push their w3's with 500-600w each. (they rate 250w)

MaximaDave gives good authorized dealer prices, good guy to deal with.
