Anyway to run aftermarket speakers with OEM Bose Headunit?? ==>
Ok...I'm getting ready to do my stereo now. I just sent out a money order today for a box w/ 2 10" JL Audio W3 subwoofers in it from one of our fellow .org members. I'm currently working on getting a used JL Audio 500/1 Amp from another .org member. All that I'm left with is speakers, headunit, an amp for the speakers, and installation.
I was thinking about it and I realized that I'd really like to just keep my stock BOSE Headunit if possible. I feel this way for a few reasons...
*It is easy to use
*Potential thiefs looking in my car will think my stereo is stock
*It will save me the trouble of installing a new one
*It will save me $$$$!
I was looking at a Kenwood Double-DIN headunit, but it doesn't have a detachable face. Would it make sense at all to put a Single-DIN headunit in?
Anyways, I'm probably gonna be buying 2 pairs of Eclipse 82641 6.5" Speakers and a US Acoustics USX-4065 65W x 4 Amp to run them. My main question in this thread is...
Should I buy an aftermarket headunit, or keep my stock BOSE headunit, and is it possible to run aftermarket speakers with the BOSE headunit?
Any help on this is much appreciated.
Thank You!

no double DIN i know of are detachable face, sorry!
You'd be suprised using the stock bose head wouldnt sound that bad. Ive done many of these applications all through the summer, mainly in leased cars. All you do is bypass each amplifier per speaker and use the existing speaker wire thats already ehind the headunit and extend it to the trunk and connect it to a 4channel amp. You might also want to swap out the bose speakers, they tend to blow once you put more than 10watts into them, lol! When you buy a 4channel amp(alpine 307/407 4channels are amongst the best i have installed),US Acoustic amps are decent too. Just make sure it gives you a 3rd set of RCA outputs to run for a sub amp(most do). Now with that rca you can run that to the front of the car into a sub-level controller(by lpine-$70) and back out to the amp. That will give you full control over the subs independantly.
BTW, a 500x1 JL amp is a bit much for only two W3's. the 250x1 would easily do the job
have fun!

My recomendations, change the head unit it is superior in
quality to anthing factory, also make sure you by pass the
factory amp if you put new speakers in, the amp distorts
everything, at least thats what happened to me
