Need Headunit Recommendations...

Alright...I've begun the process of redoing my stereo system. I bought a box with 2 10" JL Audio W3 subwoofers. I also have plans to buy the following stuff...

*Eclipse 82641 6.5" Speakers for the front doors and back deck
*US Acoustics USX-4065 65W x 4 Amp to amp the speakers
*JL Audio 250/1 amplifier for the subs

I already bought the subs (2 10" JL Audio W3-D4 in a box).

You may have noticed that there is one thing missing from my list. A HEADUNIT!! I have no idea which headunit I want to buy. I want something that will look nice in my dashboard, but I don't want to spend $700 on some thing with features that I'll never even use.

What good headunits would you guys recommend in the $200-$400 range?

Also, should I get a single-DIN unit, or a double-DIN unit? And if a single-DIN unit, what should I do with the extra opening under the single-DIN unit?

Thanks!
-Nick

I agree with Jayson too.

One problem...the Eclipse 82641's are mainly designed to run off of deck power ONLY! Go with the Eclipse Point Source front and back (I have these ran to a JL 300/4 75WX4) They will handle the extra power you will be giving them. The 82641's will not.

How much are the Eclipse Point Source (8963 6.5")?
How much is the JL Audio 300/4?

I'm looking at Eclipse headunits now.

Thanks,
-Nick

Expensive stuff!

Why 6"? Eclipse's website says they have a 6.5" Point Source Series. It is #8963.

I guess I'll buy that amp for the speakers. It's a lot of extra cash over the $180 US Acoustics one I was gonna buy!

Hmmm...lemme know about the speakers!

6-6.5" same thing

Eclipse has not updated their website yet on the new 5-digit Point Source speakers yet....I'm gonna call them tomorrow on it. The 89640 are current...

Nakamichi CD-45Z, I'm getting one soon as a backup deck. Street price is about $400 or so...

No fancy features but a great sounding deck....

But the JL is well worth the $$. I have demoed one and it was running Focals, JL Audio Subs, and JL Audio 6x9s. Trust me when I tell you that you will not regret this amp one whit. The beauty of this amp is the multitude of controls for adjustments and the fact it is stable down to a 2 ohm load. Another thing is that it's a very clean sounding amp. In fact, I dare put it on a par with the a/d/s 640.2 I was originally going to buy.
