Aftermarket HU adapter

I have read the sticky info. and I'm still not sure what the difference is between the scosche adapter and the Metra 70-7551. I currently have a bose hu and want to keep my factory speakers for now. If anyone would care to answer my questions below, I would appreciate it. Also, if I purchase a double din unit, is the bose adapter and antena adapter all I will need?

1. What is the difference between the adapters?
2. Which adapter do I need?
3. Is one adapter better than the other?
4. Will the sound level be the same as stock with either adapter?

1. Scosche tones down a high level signal. 7551 uses low level outputs of the radio.
2. Depends on what radio you are installing, how many preouts, voltage of said preouts, etc.
3. Most will say the 7551 is better but they both work.
4. If your preout voltage is high enough to be able to use a 7551, yes.

  1. Both adapter would work. If what you get is just the connector and bunch of wires, then there's no difference. Usually the Scosche comes with a 4-channel gain controller.
  2. Yes, you also need ant adapter.
  • If you use the preamp output of your HU, then direct wiring is OK.
  • If you use the high-level output of your HU, the gain controller is needed to convert high-level signals into low-level signals.

The HU I am interested in is a JVC KW-XG700. Here is some info. from crutchfield:

Chassis Size Code DD
RMS Power Output 20 watts
Peak Output 50 watts
CEA Compliant Yes
RMS Power Bandwidth 20-20kHz
Preamp Outputs 3 pair
Sub Preamp Outputs Yes
Preamp Voltage 2.5 volts

With the information above, which adapter would be better suited for this hu?
Thanks

70-7551 may reduce the output slightly, however for simplicity sake thats the route I would go. If you are a bit more inclined you can use the scosche with adjustable "gains".

I havent had good luck with JVC decks and the 7551. Preouts are simply weak.

I used the Scosche adapter and it works fine: http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=535933

If anyone needs the Scosche adapter ($40) and/or the antenna adapter ($13), use PA156 for free shipping on Crutchfield.com
