i remembered a few days back you've posted about the lowe's roofing material.. i know that rammat is alot more affordable than dynamat but 200bux or so is kinda steep for me at the moment.. i want to know how well the stuff sticks... beause i'm going to be having that in my doors and on the roof.. i don't at all want that stuff to peel off one day and cause problems.. i've heard of incidence where dynamat dind't hold up in the doors and got jammed into the windows railings..

also the stuff that comes standard on our cars is not what i like.. it melts and gets sticky when it's hot.. does the lowe's roofing material also do that???

sorry for all the questions.. but if rammat would be the better altrenative to dynamat, then i guess i'll go that route, however if lowe's is just as good then i'll definately be willing to save the extra money.. oh yeah.. and how much of it would i need to do the entire car, roof, doors, floor, trunk.. i want the thick stuff too.

thanx in advanced

It sticks very well. They use a form of asphalt adhesive that has virtually no odor when new, and disipates completely within a couple days. During the summer I installed a roll under the rear seat in the morning and a couple hours later carpooled to work without a single comment about odor. It is very flexible, but unlike the cascade audio vinyl maerial does not stretch - it is aluminum after all. So proper placement on curves is more important. For a basic coverage you could go a long way with $60. That would pay the pre tax on 5 rolls, 60 sq ft. One roll is plenty for a sigle layer on each front door, more than enough for a back door. The trunk takes a lot to completely cover, probably two rolls for adequate, non-audiophile level coverage. If you do the firewall, floor, roof and under rear seat It could take another roll for each. Floor, firewall and roof will probably make biggest difference along with the front doors to dampen normal vibration and vibration induced by the speakers. Covering the trunk will decrease vibration from a trunk mounted sub enclosure, but noise that enters the vehicle through the trunk is already isolated by the rear seat. I haven't noticed any melting, but it only got to 100 degrees or more a couple times this past summer in Virginia and DC.

My car already has -
- 1 Cascade 2D HD shop pack, mostly in front doors, with some in the trunk
- 1/3 Cascade 2D shop pack, in trunk and rear doors
- about 3 rolls of this stuff spread around, I put - one roll in the trunk a couple days ago, above the cascade
- between 4 and 10 cans of the Cascade sprayable
- numerous pices, sheets, etc of other materials
And I haven't even started the floor, roof, or firewall.

I have found that the thick cascade, the 2DHD, is so heavy that the adhesive that is on it is not enough. I have had good luck so far with contact cement. The type that comes in a can and is used for tile flooring. I have also had luck with adding hollow ceramic microspheres to the adhesive, to add a thermal insulater to the mix. Another thing I have used to cover sheet metal is liquid nails. I have used this to fill gaps between the other dampening sheets. I am sure that there are other items in my car, I can't remember them all.

INteresting thing about the Lowes Peel & Seal, is depending on the price that Rick is selling the RAMMAT for it's almost dollar for dollar the same price as the Peel & Seal. I've used both and they work the same for me. Not that you care what my opinion is Mingo

Jonathon,
He probably just doesn't know who you are since you are always on the www.elitecaraudio.com site anymore. Actually I don't even know if I can remember seeing you there recently. Glad to hear you've tried the peel & seal. The big advantage is that you don't have to pay shipping and you can buy small quantities, not that I would. But some people take to conservative approach to dampening.

of course I can't post everything. That would make it too easy for everyone else. And the research is half the fun.

of course i don't care about your opinion you have dynaudio speakers... j/p...i really did apreciate your advice about the rammat.. but it was 55-60 a roll, and i didnt' realize that it was a much larger roll than the stuff jmax was talking about, the "$12" a roll caught my eyes, but the quantity dind't really register in my head.. so i guess i'll go for rammat.. but the guy still hasn't emailed me back.. i'm just trying to save as big as a penny as i can because i'm once again unemployed and am living off what i have once made (which is definately not much).. so don't get me wrong.. oH yeh.. i think i was part of the "elite car audio" board a while back.. i heard about brown bread there, and also some guy mentioned it here not long ago.. i got sick of the audio forum because some guy called "basshead" and other people were dualing around with "my sub is better" blah blah blah. i'm just not too fond of an argument that isn't backed with a whole lot of knowledge.. i dont' even remember what my handle on the audio forum is anymore.. maybe mingo, maybe wenganator.. i have no recollection what it was.. but once again, thanx jmax, and whitemax.. both of you helped me out a great deal.. but it still can't change the fact that i'm cheap... =T well.. i hope they guy replies to my email so i can get some of that rammat stuff. i'm not sure how many layers of that stuff i want either.. i just want to make this a one time deal.. i dont' wanna rip everything out again.. i actually managed to remove the roof trim without cracking or breaking any part of it.. i'm quite impressed about it too.. well agian thanx... and please ignore my randomness.

$1 per square foot for peel and seal, plus tax.
$1.10 per square foot for ramm mat, plus shipping.

Just becaue I like my toys more than I like their toys, does that make me a snob? Not that I would change if it did.

Guy's name is Rick. Tell him that you bought from him before and he will probably honor the $55 per roll elitecaraudio.com offer. I have about 4 rolls of raam mat in my car and it works great. The adheseive does get a little soft after a while in the heat. If you do the roof, apply it only on flat section of the roof, not on the beams that are there. In the heat it will come off the beams. I found this out when I was converting the color of my headliner to black during my car's interior conversion.

Anton

Let me know if you have anymore questions. Hopefully I'll have some time soon to update my webpage and put all this crap on there.
