question for 5th geners

aight how'd yall overcome nissans crappy trunk design, as far as how puttin a sub in the trunk will sink into the spare tire, i was thinking about cuttin me some plywood for a new trunk floor, but then i'd ruin being able to get my spare tire

another problem is, WHAT THE HELL IS RATTLIN lol i've solved some of the problem, only other thing i can think of doin is taking some dynomat and put it on every thing i can see, and another question is, what is it that rattles worse when the rear seats are up

oh and there is a rattle just going down the road with the seats down but no music, just sounds like something loose but i can't find it, anyone else had this annoying problem, if so what the $#%@ is it

i actualy cut out a large piece of mdf to fit the floor of my truck (made it perfectly flat.) it weighs a bit but made a nice flat floor. then i cut a hole in the middle and made a removable door so i can get the spare out. that crapy stock spacer for the spare well was crap and bent inwards from all the crap i lug around. screwed the box into it and doesnt go anywere.

My box pretty much takes up the entire trunk. I have never had an issue with it moving around on me.

As for the rattles, after spending more than I spent on my front components on deadener and other solutions only to have another bad rattle arise, I gave up. I have well over 260sq ft of deadener throughout the car and my rear deck still rattles. I figure I did the best I could with the money I had, over $900, and decided to cut my losses and deal with them.

My system build/design > any 5th gen design

Both practical and still have trunk space. Oh and no saggy trunk board FTW!

I still have trunk space, but then again I don't use my trunk much anyways. Plus mine looks better than a rectangle just sitting there.

Yeah that is true. I also have a piece of plexi glass infront of the subs so nothing can get in.

i'm probably going with the mdf board for the floor, though it will add some serious weight to the car, as for the rattles thats kinda disheartening, i've never heard a damn car rattle so bad, even with no bass on, the rear deck is terrible in the 5th gens, i think it has something to do with the pop rivets that hold it down, that was a dumb idea personally

I still doesn't see a point in trying to argue with you guys about it being not a bandpass. Cause for some reason you guys can't get it through you thick skulls. Then again I could careless what you guys say anymore about my system as I know what it is and it isn't a bp thats for sure.

Can you PLEASE explain how a sealed chamber and a ported chamber in the same enclosure does not equal a bandpass?

Your absolutely right, Ive been doing this longer than you have been breathing air, what do I know?

Its not a bandpass because you and your friend said it's not. Thats good factual data there !

I have a single 12" enclosure. What i did was make a cut out of wood for basically the entire trunk layout. I cut it in half and put another board under the 2 to try and hold them together. I am able to remove half of the board when i've needed to remove my spare. Little bit of a pain thats the decision u make when u put something like that in your trunk.

yea i figure i'll worry about the spare when the time comes until then i'll build the floor cause the sub is almost firing down cause it sags so bad lol, and as for the rear deck i was thinking about putting something between it and the metal to keep it from rattlin against the metal, which i figure is the worst of the rattle

I have the setup above in my 96 Maxima and it has worked out nicely. I have been kind of able to get away without it in my 02.

This is how my sub looks in my 5th gen, it's kind of angled downward a bit and the back of the box goes up to the rear of the back seats (this give me enough room in front of the box to pull out the cheap board that Nissan supplies if needed). I used L clamps to hold the box in place, three on top and two on the bottom towards the back of the box. I had though about ordering another board from Nilesh, not because of my sub box, but because I sometimes carry a good amount of gear in my trunk. I can put as much stuff as I want in my 96 his board with no issues.

Took a decent amount of time, design, and measuring to get it just right. Then it was just a matter of getting the process right to mass produce them, as I still do now.

Love the subs. Super crisp, get loud when I need it, and they're 10's so I still keep plenty of trunk space.

YOU should definitely buy one of my boards

Box is not secured to the shelf, it's got enough weight with the amp mounted to the back, plus the friction from the carpet, that it doesn't move at all, ever.

The carpeted spare tire cover is $70 shipped. Keep in mind that $20 of that goes in shipping alone. You can save $10 if you go with a non-carpeted spare tire cover.

If you want the 'shelf' that the sub box sits on, cut two 6" lengths of a 2x4, and a 6" x 30" piece of plywood (or MDF, or whatever). Screw the 'blocks' to the trunk floor, screw the plywood to the blocks. Done.

I got the subs from Don, Pearl96Max.

SOMETIMES you might find him online, on this very board, in this very subforum.
