Dimmer Negative Wire

I am installing an after market stereo in my 2003. The aftermarket wiring harness has a orange black wire which reads NEGATIVE DIMMER. I can see that once plugged, it mates with the factory wiring harness to a RED/YELLOW wire. However, I don't know where the wire from the after market harness goes. I searched and someone suggested to ground that wire. If I ground it, I cannot control the dimmer function from the dimmer switch. The A/C lights are on bright, even when I turn on the head lights. The clock does dim. And the speedo lights are not able to be dimmed.

There is one wire from the kenwood HU that is illumination. I have already connected that to the wire from the aftermarket harness.

Anyone know where the wire from the aftermarket harness needs to go, other than grounding it?

I almost did that and then decided against it. For now I am going to deal with not being able to use the dimmer. Next weekend I will re-wire.
Thanks
