Aftermarket heated seat pads + OEM wiring?

My I35 did not come with the cold weather package. Instead of buying used factory seats, I was wondering if I can combine aftermarket heated seat kits + OEM wiring?

My reasoning: OEM heated seats are known to fail due to the small gauge wire used. With an aftermarket kit, I can keep my stock seats, and use the $ saved to maybe get it re-upholstered.

Since I am 99% sure my car is pre-wired, since most 5.5gens are, could I use factory wiring, factory switches, and aftermarket heated pads?
