whats the best component?

i want to replace my speakers with some components but dont which ones to choose. right now ive got 6 1/2's all the way around they are pineer 220W three way speakers. sound is good but when i get some songs that have bass they start popping and the sound gets distorted. im looking to get some harder hitting bass without the distortion or the popping of the speakers when i turn the volume up. would you guys recommend running the components with an amp or just by themselves?

I would definately invest in a nice amp. Everyone seems to like Rainbow components here, and for a good reason, I am biased myself Don (Pearl96Max) is the man to get em from, he'll probably chime in soon.

How much do the Rainbow components usually cost?

GET AN AMP!! Not enough power to the speakers is worst than too much power in some cases. Underpowering you speakers will cause them to blow. Distortion can F#ck your speakers up. Get an amp that matches or is within 75%(that's what I've been told) of the the speaker' RMS. Hopefully this helps.

for rainbows. i'm running a set myself. price varies, so it really depends on how much you're willing to spend.

also look into hertz audio. they make some nice components as well.

I can't tell you the price since I don't sell them, Don is the authorized dealer so pm him. He also does group deals sometimes, so check that section.

I have also owned infinity's in the past, and after hearing Rainbows and other less-known companies, Ill probably never buy another mainstream speaker again. Theres just no point..

I used to like Infinity ... about 10+ years ago ... but that was before I had ever heard good speakers that cost more than $100. =)

i too an starting to learn that major name brand speakers rae good but there are WAY BETTER unknown companies out there such as Morel. i dont have components yet but i do have MA audio HK65's all around, 6.5" 100w rms 200 peak runnin off of my pioneer AVIC D3, they sound amazing, total clarity an no distortion. what ICEMAN76 said about under poweing speakers is true but mainly only applies to subs. components an most other door speakers are made to handle 2w all the way on up to the peak power rating. an although the specs are important there is one definitive way to really tell how good any spoeaker really is. physically look at the voice coil. the larger the circumfrence of the voic coil the better the power handling an endurance regardless of what the specs say! if one speaker says 50w nominal an 110 peak an an another says 100w nom. an 200 peak but the first speaker has a larger voice coil then the first speaker would be a better choice.

lol ok let me reitterate, i know morel is in the extreme high end of the spectrum an ma audio is only better than average at best. my point was for years i only thought major name brands were the only ones that existed. an i was way off base thinkin that. an yes im a noobie to posting on this site but i have acutally been on it for months now, just watching, learning an researching. i am a professional electrician, i fix weapons an avionic systems on the almighty AH-64D Apache longbow helicopter for the US Army. so im not a noobie in that aspect.

Then you should know, mr electrician, that looking at a speaker doesn't mean ****, and that no speaker can run off 2 watts.

lol

a big coil doesn't necessarily mean better speaker. thermal handling might be better, but there's so much more in a good set of speakers than a large coil.

But regardless, no set of components should ever be ran off of a headunit. Not saying I've never installed components on a headunit for the cheap@ss people at work, and if they don't turn it up too loud theyre ok, but just say no.
