Upgrading OEM nav in 5.5th gen

Ok, it seems there is very little information on this topic, probably because so few 5.5 gen owners even have factory nav. Here's my dilemma: the factory unit is CD based (knew it when I bought), and the problem is the updates have stopped coming from Zenrin. I need to get the greater detail available with DVD applications in my car because I drive to unfamiliar smaller towns quite often in my line of work.

So, does anyone know if I'll be able to fit in a different type of nav unit (OEM from other gens/models, or even aftermarket) and still be able to control the climate?

For a refresher, this is the unit with 6-disc changer in trunk, Bose tape deck/controller and touchscreen nav w/climate control in-dash.

Please share your thoughts....

Why am I getting the silent treatment? Does anyone have information? If there's a link I didn't find, please help out. I don't need to be spoon-fed, just looking for a little help.

It is possible no one can directly answer you. Like you even stated so few 5th gens had this, so I can see why there is no response.

I wish I could offer more help, but I dont have an answer for you either.

I would do what another person on here did and convert your oem nav setup to the conventional automatic climate control setup + aftermarket navigation headunit. It involves some new wiring, new brackets as far as I remember.
