This includes shipping? What's the minimum wattage you can safely run these at?

nismos14 05-03-2008 06:34 AM

I wouldn't be scared running 200 watts to them, if and ONLY if you know what you're doing.

Wil's95SE 05-03-2008 12:38 PM

Sounds interesting. Might be in for this.

That's way more then id ever use, I like my ears :D
I'm wondering if I can get away with around 20 watts rms deck power until I get an amp without damaging them for maybe a month or two?

nismos14 05-03-2008 06:21 PM

You can't do damage by underpowering, unless you send a clipped signal by trying to raise the volume too high.

I will be runing 280rms to my front stage in the Alti in a the next month or so ;)

hi-tek22 05-04-2008 03:00 PM

so who do i paypal my money to????

BlkMaxPower 05-04-2008 09:37 PM

Hmm...I might be interested in another set of SLCs. Don you've got a PM...

chinaonnitrous1 05-08-2008 10:25 AM

I'll be down for a set of the Kicks, Need to pay via CC no paypal.

Or I can mail off a USPS check.

I'm looking within the next week.

Or I might have to find anohter option.

This Mr2 I bought is so quiet, you can hear wind noise =T

nismos14 05-08-2008 10:40 AM

This isn't entirely true, you can clip the **** out of the amp all day long. If you don't reach the thermal limits of the driver, it won't blow (IE BURN!), PERIOD.

20 watts likely won't do it. 75+ is more like it...,mechanical limits on the other hand are easily surpassed :)

BTW I'm going to be running 390rms per side soon, most of it is headroom though :D

coyote_5 05-13-2008 09:07 AM

Don, any of the slc 265 sets still available?

Pearl96Max 05-13-2008 09:14 AM

Yes sets are still available, but I should have mentioned in the thread this is for 10 sets. Mix and match doesnt matter.

I suppose after all the numerous GDs I failed to mention that small detail.

would turning up the amp to 3/4 gain cause clipping? What is usually the volume level of a HU that results in sending a clipped signal?

updated. I was trying to find the mount depth on the 265 kicks, What I found said 2.55 inches, is that correct?

Its totally dependent on various factors...there are no set guidelines to determine if something is clipping or not. Some think that HUs clip no matter what at full volume, and that is simply untrue...

Only way to really tell is to:

A.) Trust your ears, only really works if you KNOW what to listen for. Severe clipping is obvious, however it can be a little hard to determine just when something begins to clip at all.

B.) An O-scope and music/test tones

To conclude, clipping can be a serious issue. But I believe that it is wrongly attributed to transducer failure in many cases. Mechanical failure is likely the culprit in most situations, even tweeters (more so in active setups).

Clipping only kills speakers if they SURPASS their thermal power handling. Use RMS values as a BASIC guide for this, just don't go bonkers over it, they will likely see only 1/4 of the power form your amplifier anyway...

Quick question, I'm hearing and reading that the CMX does get a bit better midbass?

Or is the difference primarily in the tweeter? Comparing the SLC and the CMX Kick editions.

ICEMAN76 05-15-2008 06:28 PM

Ok guys, got a few questions about these Rainbows. I've been trying to look them up online and can't find any real answers to my questions. I was wondering what the difference is between the SLC 265's and the SLC 265 Kicks?? On one site it only shows the mounting depth to be the difference but are there any more?? I drive an 03 SE, and was wondering what I would need to install them in my front doors, and also would the tweeter fit in the stock location??

Completely different drivers. I havent found there to be a substantial amount of midbass from the CMX opposed to the SLC. Although detail from both the tweet and midbass came out above in the CMX set. CMX's have a slightly larger ( although hard dome) tweet - CAL25.
