'63 Corvette build
This will be an updated thread as the work progresses. Here is our latest big build at work, thought Id share with you guys, maybe pull some more customers in.. (shameless plug?) Here we go:
Car: built from ground up 1963 Corvette, I believe it is a Stingray. This guy dumped TONS of money into this thing even before it got here. Im not a gearhead or anything, but you could eat off of the under side of this car, if that was possible. Beefy engine, tranny, nitrous, whole 9. He brought it to us so we could build an interior, as well as put some sound inside. Interior includes: custom center console, dash, door panels, headliner/floorliner and then we can start sound.
Equipment:
Alpine V-Hub Pro
Alpine TME-M740BT 7" Touch Screen
Alpine PDX 4.100
Alpine PDX 1.600
MB Quart QSD 6.5 Separates (had them on display for a while, time to get rid of them!)
MB Quart coax rear fill
2x JL Audio 8w3's
RF Deadskin sound deadening throughout car, as well as foam barrier type on floor. Can't recall what it was exactly atm.
car:
heres a terrible pic of the rear area with some deadening already applied:

So we designed a sealed box for the 8's and it drops in very snug:
At the same time, started building shrouds, and bondo-ing the rear quarter panels. From there we created the amp rack which will also house the rear fill speakers, and a corvette logo in the center on a lit-up piece of plexi.

more bondo and sanding work here. this is what took up most of the time:
everything is pretty smooth.
Dash construction (Customer brought us this dash, but it was VERY rough, and some things needed to be changed):

Passenger side of the dash is going to house the 7" screen - We originally wanted to put it in the center console, but the customer told us he didnt want it there. IMO, it would have looked better, but whatever!
the screen will flip down to reveil an Alpine DVD player, as well as an Ipod plug in spot.
the mess we have to sort through soon:

And perhaps the hardest part, the door panels. These took a lot of thought before beginning, shy of maybe just this board:
Most of the MDF parts were cut from our CNC machine. The physical door parts (door latch, etc.) are being taken from a junked Saab door(s).
part of armrest I don't believe we'll be using:
The full skeleton:
close up of armrest:
The door will be fiberglassed and painted red in some parts, carpeted or vinyled in other areas. More to come in the next few days. Comments welcomed!

I caught it, appreciate it, thanks
it does bother me. I have talked to superiors about it... I dont think its gonna fly unfortunately, especially since our shop is stepping into the home audio world big time in the coming months. Theres wayyyyyy more money to be had there..

lol, if anyone was in charge it'd be the install manager (the guy mixing bondo/hardener in one of the dash pictures), as he has a tad bit more skill than me. Ill keep working on them Don.

sure, the V-Hub Pro combined with a touch screen like the one we are using can create a HU. All sources connect to the v-hub brain, and the screen/remote controls everything.

Second kidney stone this year, followed by UTI and high fever/nausea. She was discharged this morning, thank god. She's feeling much better, but is still on pain meds.

in the door:
And unfortunately, this how the door will stay when the car leaves. When we were discussing with the customer what we planned on doing to the rest of the door, he thought it would be "too heavy". I dont know whether he meant too heavy for the car (because we put plenty of deadning in there) or too heavy for the hinges, but either way its kinda queer He's going to be doing the rest himself, or something..

floor carpet. This guy likes black, if you havent figured that out already. At least the exterior color will be Silver like the hood in the very first pic in this thread..
Had to split it in the middle (covered anyways). Way too much of a b!tch to use 1 straight piece.
Rear comps crossover placement:
thats all for today. The end is in sight, more to come later.

So we finished the vette tonight. It looks half finished though, the guy ran out of money, and said he'd come back some time down the road or do the rest himself. Things that aren't completed are the whole dash, the door panels (from reasons above) and etching the plexi. I dont blame him too much because of the cost of the whole job, but then again I wouldnt have bothered going big if I wasn't going all the way..
On a side note, the whole car is VERY solid, the combination of bondo and deadening makes it feel like rock, and it makes a great 'thud' sound when striking the outside gently.
pics to come soon..
