New Plan of attack - questions

Hi guys,

Thanks for all the help with my subwoofer setup, I appreciate it.

I think I've decided on a new plan of attack for my audio system. I am going to get another amp to drive my front and rears, so I'm getting a 4 channel amp. I haven't decided on what I want just yet, but I'm gonna figure it out in the coming weeks.

My question comes to getting power and signal to both amps. I think that I figured out that you need a distribution block to get power to multiple item, but when it comes to signal, how do you do it? Is there a signal repeater/distribution block that you can use to split the signal to both the sub amp and the speaker amp?

Side question, what speaker size would I need to get for running to the doors and the rear speakers? I heard that 16gauge is good, but I just want to confirm.

Thanks!

16 gauge is fine for speaker wire.

as for splitting the signal, some amps have an extra set of RCA input/out that lets the signal pass through and allows you to hook up another amp. or you can find y-spliters for pretty cheap online or at radio shack.

So the y-splitters won't degrade the signal?

What about the remote wire then? Can I just tap that and route it into the second amp? Or is that not enough voltage?

Get the largest size possible, even if it takes extra work. I learned the hard way. I'm upgrading to 8" woofers cause the 6.5"s I have now just don't move enough air.

Sorry, that was meant to say speaker wire size.

What about the remote wire? Can I tap the one running to my current amp?

Also, for the SLCs that I'm going to be putting in the fronts, I am looking at an amp that does 75w x 4, is that enough? Will it damage the speakers or anything like that? (my rears are alpine type-r coaxials)

nope, you won't hear a difference. just make sure the splitter is of good quality.

the remote wire, you can t-tap it and route it to the 2nd amp. that's what i'm doing now on my setup.

Awesome that's exactly what I needed to know.

Do you have any recommendations for a good distribution block that's not too expensive? I have a 4 guage power cable coming in, now if I have a 600w max amp and another amp that is about 375-450w, what size outlets would I need?

Hmm, i believe it's 300w RMS (bridged). The instruction manual says "Rated Power Output" is 300w, so I'm guessing that means it's RMS.

Anything in particular I should keep an eye out for regarding the blocks? I've never run one before.

nothing really. just make sure the connections on the distro block are secured and you'll be good to go.

you'll like those SLCs.

deaden those doors if you haven't already done so.

What exactly does this "deadening" do?

Prevent rattling?

yeah pretty much. it'll help with midbass response...and also helps reduce road noise from getting into the cabin.

Just to clarify because I didn't see this mentioned...

You need RCA splitters because you're still running the stock HU, right?

No sir, JVC HU. It only has one set of RCA outs so, with 2 amps, I need to get 2 signals
