ipod location
Hey guys....
I have a alpine cda-9885 and I will be getting it installed soon. I got the ipod cable that connects to the back of the unit and I am wonder where most of you have been running that cable to connect your ipod. I was thinking about drilling a hole in the back of the dashkit pocket under the headunit and keeping it in there.
Where have you guys mounted yours and how do you like it in that location?
Pictures would definately be most helpful.
Thanks guys!!!

I've got the cable running into my glove compartment. I like it there b/c it is out of sight. Don't want to give the thieves another reason to break into my whip. I've heard of others running the cable into the arm rest console. That seems to be a good place for it also. Hope this helps. Sorry no pics.
I have mine going to my glove box ONLY because I can easily lock it in there if need be. With the ipod cables, you don't even need access to your ipod, everything is controlled by the headunit so you dont' really need easy access to it.
and even USB in cars isn't that great, because you have to hook it up to that cable, which then leads up to the deck (can you say "spaghetti"?!!). It would be better if you could just hook up the USB stick directly to the front of the deck.
Doesn't it depend on the deck. I thought some H/U have a USB slot on the front. Maybe that's the next innovation.

Did you end up doing this? How do you like it? I am finally getting mine installed tomorrow and was wondering if you had any suggestions?
Thanks.
I drilled a hole in the back of the pocket, gave some slack, and taped the cables down behind the pocket, as well as around the drilled hole so the connectors wouldn't accidentally slide back out. That's unlikely though, even if I just left the hole uncovered.
Here's what it looks like:

That's how much slack I gave the cables.

I have the usa-spec ipod adapter, and my iPod sits in the cupholder. I don't use my cupholder that often, and I can fully close the cupholder lid w/ the iPod inside and it is completely concealed.
ah.. cup holders and coin tray.. i put mine in my glove compartment.. i use my coin tray (for change obv) and i like having cup holders.. so none of my clumsy friends spill their drinks all over my seat and carpet =P.
My Pioneer DEH-P7800MP or w.e the iPod sounds better than putting mp3s on a CD for some reason IMO....

I ran the cable into the glovebox. It stays locked and I can easily get it out when I need to. This is the best method for me since it can be locked up rather than "hidden". I can control everything through the Pioneer HU. No need to ever open the glovebox; keep insurance/registration in sunvisor
The ashtray is for change and cupholder for phone or any other random stuff (candy) and no-hassle by just running the cable to the glovebox!

Now, there is crappy media (tape deck anyone?) and poor quality MP3s, but if you have a good source, and a good connection from the media to the amp then you should get good sound. I wouldnt recommend 128kbit mp3s on a CD or on an iPod, but if you put 256kb mp3s on an iPod and use a USB connection you should get pretty good sound out of it. As good as a CD I would argue.
Just my 2 cents of clarification....

I kind of have to disagree. The thing you might be overlooking is that the player IS the media, so the 2 paths you show are actually the same.
