Nissan 2003 (5th Gen) Non-Bose System Upgrade

Hi Guys,

I read through the sticky, very useful information so far but mostly for bose system. I have a Maxima 2003 GXE non-bose system. I would like to upgrade factory speakers and factory head unit. I don't want to install an amp. I am hoping just an aftermarket head unit and speaker will be good enough for a good sound.

Here are the options I am thinking of:

Speakers: Infinity Kappa 63.7i

I wanted Boston Acoustics Pro60 but they don't sell them in Canada. So, going with Infinity Kappa 63.7. I like more treble, not sure if this speakers will have more treble. I think more treble gives you the feeling of clear/crisp sound. Do you have any recommendations?
How much difference does it make between 2-way and 3-way speakers?

Head Unit: Alpine IDA-X001

I am not so sure about the head unit. All I care bluetooth, usb input and XM radion (option with an adapter is ok, doesn't have to be build in). Do you have any ideas or recommendations?

Extra Accessories:
PAC SWI-X - Steering Wheel Radio Control Interface

Questions:
What else do I need to do the install by myself?
If I decided to keep the factory head unit, will Infinity Kappa 63.7i work with factory head unit?

So far installation of the speakers seems easier than the head unit. I am thinking of install the speaker by myself and then go to Best Buy or Visions Electronics for head unit installation. I live in MB, Canada.

Thanks in advance for any input.

the kappa's are good speakers, go with those. there isn't much of a sound difference in 2-way and 3-way speakers, unless you decide to install external subwoofers.

I have the non-bose stereo in my 2002 maxima. when i got the car, all 4 of my speakers were basically blown. so i went up to my local audio store, and i was going to go with the infinity kappa's but they didn't have them. they recommended me the memphis 15-mc6's which are a little better than the kappa's and they were only $5 more per set!

to answer your question, you can install aftermarket speakers on your non-bose head unit. and if i might add, the speakers sound great on the stock head unit.

if i was you, this is what i would do: buy the kappa's, but don't buy a head unit unless you really want the bluetooth/usb input/xm radio. then take your car up to best buy or wherever is best for you and have them installed professionally, just for good measure.
