i think that maybe a tad to wide, and also can't forget about the height of the box, due to the fact of the tension rods for the trunk and the trunk arms

 

38 is the widest if you plan on sliding it in but if you build it in the trunk i think you can do 40" or so..

but 38.5 may fit it will depends on how deep the box it because you may get one side in then turn her around while its in the trunk..MAYBE

 

id say itd fit but just watch out for the trunk supports

Trav- What struts did you use to replace the bars?

 

pretty much the same ones that are under the hood, i can get ya a number tomorrow

i just picked them up from autozone or a simple autoparts store

Yeah I was trying to use this but I went to AZ and they said that these numbers don't match with their system.

 

these are the numbers i have on mine

and the strut is black with blue label

i think its 6" of play in the strut
