Satellite... on it's way out?

I was about to have Sirius installed in my Max, but then wondered what the the future of satellite radio was going to be, with HD radio and ipods providing some pretty good options.

Should I spend the $250+ or am I wasting my money?

Only you can decide that, but my XM and my Ipod are doing right by me.

I really do not find satellite and HD radio to be competing technologies.

I enjoy satellite because you can set it to a channel for a particular type of listening material (music/news/talk/comedy etc.) and can drive across the country without ever touching the dial.

If you do not do a lot of travelling and enjoy listening to what the local stations have to offer, then go with HD.

However, I do not think there are many (if any) stations bradcasting in HD here in Canada yet.

Sirius is amazing. sat radio is the future. HD radio is nothing special. The fcc still is all over it. sat radio is freedom. freedom to talk about what you want, swear, etc. i have it my friends have it we all love it. also whats nice is you can listen to it at work or home via your computer so basically you can have it wherever you go. The reason they 'made' HD radio is they are scared of to many people going to sat radio and losing money. HD radio has been in the works for 15 years. the only difference honestly is sat has tons of content while HD has better sound quality.
i can drive from boston to maine or to cali and listen to the same station the entire time, that is just awesome.

screw terrestrial radio.

sat raio pros:
a ton more stations
no static between stations

I have HD radio & iPod... I only listen to HD radio when I forget to put the iPod back in the car. The sound quality is not as good as a CD, but way better than regular FM. I'd pass on it if I were you for now.

Sat radio will only get better.

Eh, HDradio will certainly eat up a lot for Sat. Thing is, Sat is commercial free. Some people find that worth the price of admission.
