You shouldn't have gone cheap. Should have gotten eclipse. As for speakers, get rainbows.

Is eclipse really that much better? From what I have heard Alpine is one of the best. And i have a 300 dollar budget. Or could wait twice as long and have a 600 dolllar budget. So I need the choices for $300 and a $600 and which one is more worth it.

When upgrading you door speakers... at least get components... i went w/the cheap type s alpine. They were cheap. But the catch is that you can't turn them up loud enough w/o them distorting since they aren't "good" 6.5's.

Law, stop throwing out random BS. If the d106 had everything he was looking for, then there's nothing wrong with it. And there's absolutely nothing wrong with Alpine, you're talking like he bought a Jensen/Dual etc.. Id take an Alpine over a Pioneer any day of the week.

it has nothing to do with this forum, that's just your average joe's level of understanding. remember this is a maxima forum with a section that just happens to be dedicated to audio.

---

to the op: as you can see you're not gonna get an answer to "best speaker for the money?". it depends on your expectations and a world of variables. do your research (caraudio.com would probably a good place to start for the basics) and keep in mind "what's the best * " questions have no right answer so don't bother asking. any answer you get will be bs.

Thanks Black this actually what I really needed. I have just about no experience with car audio besides installing my head unit which I can't even get my DVD/Video to work.

You need to connect the brake wire as well as the parking brake wire in order for you to watch dvd, and that's only while parked (parking brake has to be on). Or you could purchase a PAC TR-7 and that will allow you to view DVD all the time..

alpine speakers suck in my opinion Ive seen so manny shattered and completely destroyed after a short time. the best bang for the buck for me has always been JL audio. I always go JL for subs and interiors. Ive had like every speaker hu combo in existence (not really but alot) and I wont even bother tryn anything but JL anymore, they dont crack or burn up, they take more power that there rated for and they last forever.

as an example my friend had 2 high end alpine12's (cant remember the name) that cost like 800 each or some crazy $hit and a ridiculous 2000w alpine amp. I had 2 JL w3's (cheap JL's) and a 400w JL amp, I got a deal and paid like 280 for the set. we set up next to each other and asked friends to judge which sounded better and which was louder. mine won hands down even the kid wit the alpine said mine sounded better and was louder.

Interesting. Since your somewhat local I would love to have a demo and a bit of fair comparison with my clients vehicles as well as my own.

I would also love your thoughts on some speaks and HUs ..

Pioneer ODR - no not the P9 combo
Alpine F1 - dvi-9990/H990
Nakamichi CD700/700II, MBX, CD500
Denon DCT-1, DCT-100. DCT-Z1

As for speakers ..

Good god. This thread is a prime example of the reason I hardly post here anymore.

I better sell my SE's, Flatlines, and Dyns to get all JL. It will definitely sound better than my current crap.

the setup I spoke of was in my vw fox like 2yrs ago so I dont have it anymore. but I do have all JL interiors in the max and it sounds great.

ok so I havent had any of the heads you listed. pioneer I feel isnt bad bang for the buck because they are competitively priced and have always lasted me well without burning up. I had a close friend that swore by denon and his stuff always lasted and sounded great. Im sure all these units are nice. there are definitely some good units made by most manufacturers but for the laymen to sort out the quality from the stuff thats riding on the name branding is sometimes difficult. I dont like alpine because I feel that there quality has gone down in the past few years on most models however they do put some nice equipment into some of the models (prob like the one you listed). honestly never had a nakamici so not sure.
as for speakers
the rainbows are real nice but arent they real expensive??
all the stuff you listed is real nice prof quality stuff but its real pricy also. I just feel that JL is more modestly priced. hence the bang for the buck. I wasnt really thinkin of super high end stuff when I posted originally my bad.I was more thinkin its way better for the money than your average pioneer, alpine, xplode, kenwood exc..
I was thinkin in the below 500$ range.

like I say I only have jl interiors and a cheap pioneer hu in the max now but if you wanna hear it its cool its nothing special though. Ive been tryin not to spend tons of cash on car audio these days because Im tryn to save to buy a home. but I do however have a nice system in my ae92 that I put together cheap and everyone seems to b impressed by, but my girl is driving it mow so I gotta ask her permission first(LOl). the AE has a real nice pioneer hu (not sure what model off the top) jl interiors and 2 10" visionik (think i spelled that wrong)subs in a custom bandpass box with a 225w amp.(got the subs and amp in a trade and they have been surprisingly resilient).

kudos on your knowledge of car audio. Im sure with the products you listed your setups sound sweet. where do you work Id like to see your stuff. Im currently living in bay shore long island.

That post leaves a whole lot of room for people to shoot down your argument, but I'll keep it short.

JL and 'modestly priced' shouldn't be used in the same sentence. Last I checked, the SRP on a 1000/1 or W7 was a grand, which is downright rape for what you get. Second, you kill your argument for people looking at you as knowledgeable when you say you like your setup of visonik subs in a bandpass box.

There is also much more than 'your average pioneer and alpine'. Do a search for Pioneer ODR or Alpine F1...they make JL look like a polished/shiny piece of poo.

And to your last question...he works at the shop he owns, and has been doing this stuff almost as long as I've been alive.

Don't take anything personally though, we all start somewhere. But read up on some different forums and learn from some gurus before you go around posting as if JL is the end-all-be-all.

If it sounds good to YOU then all is good. However touting the phrases of "the best" will not go far in an audiophiles mind. Although you did say the best, you also said "to me". Which does give you some credibility. Not in regards towards the products, but rather making it known this is your preference.

Pioneer ODR and Carozzeria are imported JDM products. There is NOTHING sold on US soil that touches them.

Alpine F1 is not the current offerings from Alpine. It is their elitist high end that was unfortunately dropped late '06. Another thing that isnt being touched by much and would come a close second to the ODR units with preference on features coming into play.

Denon pulled from the US about 4 years ago, then dropped mobile all together about 2. Any of these found now would be either used or sitting on a stock shelf collecting dust because noone had the coin to pony up. These along with the Naks will last a lifetime if treated properly and I do still have a few. Hell, I still have my original Eclipse ECD-510 from '92 that is kicking like the day I got it.

Rainbows pricey? Indeed if your looking at the handmade, preordered, lifetime warrantied $11k References. However dipping way down the line the SLCs that SRP around $300 should be in the heading of this thread title. Sold literally hundreds of sets and they replaced MANY of the other options listed including, but not limited to the JL ZRs.

JL is a mainstream product that works well and has a glorified name for those with tunnel vision taken in by excellent marketing. Is it bad? Absolutely not. Is it the greats? Best? Most inexpensive? Surely not. Great 'bang for the buck' even? Unfortunately not when consumers open their eyes and see what else the world has to offer.

entertaining thread.

to the OP, your alpine is fine. they make some pretty good head units. as for speakers, come up with a budget and i'm sure mister Pearl96Max over there can help you out with some nice products that fits your needs/budget.

We seriously need a restricated access section to max.org ICE forum, maybe with some test questions to see if you are worthy.

so I can't come and see your shop pearl96? I wasn't tryn to be a **** just would like to know so mabye in the future I can buy from an .orger.

I don't really see how anything related to audio could be much more than opinion. That's why I constantly say things like "to me" and "in my opinion".
And I'm a musician we are the origional audiophiles (LOL)

Just a tip...quit while you're ahead.

There isn't much to be opinionated about here because you're not comparing apples to apples. This thread is like saying you think your maxima drives better than a Porsche. Yes, that is an opinion, but there are facts to prove otherwise, just like there are facts to prove that JL doesn't bring home many/any trophies for sound quality.

I never implied such a thing. I am available for any and all that need/want something.

I didnt take any of it as being a d!ck, just wanted to clarify boundaries.

There is alot that is purely subject, then there is objective data that can prove discrepancies. All products are not the same and objective data supports that.

I have POLK MOMO's in my 07 Altima. 6.5 comps in the front and 6x9 3 ways in the back. They hit pretty good. I also tossed an 8" MOMO sub in the trunk for good measure. I wasn't looking to rattle any windows, and I think it sounds pretty good with my Alpine CDA9887 h/u.

Some of the best speakers I have ever heard were Focal's...they can be rather pricey though...
