weird sub movement?

i have a couple old kickers in my car and i was playin around with the gain yesterday when i noticed something weird, when the bass hits a really low note, you can see one sub move in while at the same time the other moves out. is this normal, is it the amp, or is it the subs?

I'd say you either have them out of phase (one sub's + and - wired backwards), or theyre in a single chamber box and one sub isnt connected.

^ what he said. a wire probably got loose or something inside the box. check the wiring for proper polarity as well.

Let me get this straight. You have Kicker subs in Bazooka tube enclosures? On what amp? What exactly did you check, the inputs? The outputs? How are the inputs wired, via LOC or straight to a head unit? We're not mind readers...

i know on my 880 u can change the speaker to NOR or REV polarity, thus switching the movement of the sub

not sure what LOC is but the inputs isnt connected to the head unit, it was spliced through the rear speakers

A LOC is a Line Output Converter. It converts speaker wire to RCA, to add amps to a factory head unit. So you are either using a LOC or the high level input on the amp, either way tapping into the left and right rear speakers. If you were to mix up positive and negative when tapping into these factory wires, one channel on the amp would be the opposite phase of the other, and in turn, one sub the opposite phase of the other. Hence me asking you if you checked both the inputs and outputs, and I could be wrong but from the looks of your post, you only checked the outputs.

More importantly, get the fu~*!ing subs out of bazooka tube enclosures and into a real box.

P.S. Even more importantly than any of the above, please take your car to a professional. The below is crazy talk and I don't know how to respond.

no they were just spliced into and that could be the problem. and whats the problem with bazooka tubes, huh, if you want to offer me a free box ill be glad to take it, otherwize, myob. no seriously why are bazooka tubes so unpopular. they wouldnt be my first choice but i dont see why people flame them. btw they were given to me like that. WAS NOT MY CHOICE.lol

No, I will not build you a free box, but you can pay me to build you one.

No, this is a public forum, I will not 'myob'.

I'm not the search button; if you don't know why bazooka tubes suck, I'm not going to take the time to explain.

So what that someone gave them to you like that; someone could give me a pile of **** in the shape of a speaker but that doesn't mean I'm going to install it in my car or think its good.

To be honest, you're not posting like you have more sense than that. Gains all the way up, and Kicker subs in Bazooka tube enclosures go hand in hand.

Not trying to be a ****, but threads like these snowball. Other newbs read them and think 'oh if he does it, why can't i do it', and then we have 100 threads on here saying 'why does my sub not hit as good when I moved it from a box to a tube'.

ok ok can we get back to the subject at hand, my subs are moving funny and i have yet to figure out why. i think i have found and corrected the problem. but the problem is i live in a suburban area no loud music! so i cant test it yet. n/e ways can a bad ground cure this because mine was bad. REAL BAD. it was covered in rust to the point of no recognition. well i cleaned it up and put it back but i dont know if its fixed yet.

i guess im going to have to read up on that whole bazooka tube thing. then i can keep the argument going. lol

Reverse the phase on one of them.

Tubes with kickers subs aren't bad. If they are properly setup and deadened. Trust me .

Take one speaker apart and put the negative on the positive and the positive on the negative and see if they move with each other after that.

Take your subs out. Take each individually. Take one positive stripped wire and plug it into one of the holes in the outlet of your wall. Take the negative and plug it into the other hole. Then take both wires and stick them in your mouth.

Problem solved.

Test the polarity of each box with a 9 volt battery.

Are you short of bass? You would be if your polarity was wrong.

You calling us names after they try to help you fix your POS ghetto system?

GTFO. Enjoy some time off for being a jackass and insulting the people trying to help.

It appears that you have messed up eyes, Mr. Banned. If the bass goes away when you reverse polarity then they are in phase and both are working together. Go see the eye doctor, quit car audios.
