New Speakers

I just got 4 Sony XS-R1643 Xplod speakers for Christmas and I'm wondering if they are any good. I have an alpine IVA-D106 head unit and soon I'm getting some subwoofers and an amp for my 2k Max. I want to know if I should get something better cause I want a really nice sounding system. If so what brands are good?

if you're still stock, then yeah they'll be an upgrade. sony isn't really known to excel in car audio (unless they're the vintage stuff).

i wouldn't personally buy them, but hey...it's a gift.

You're lucky you're in NJ.

What is your budget?

Blah, he's part of the leet NJ crew now. Much easier (and cost effective) access to much higher quality equipment.

Yeah I'm from NJ. But brand new to cars and car audio cause I just turned 17 in June. So I need some help. Also my budget for speakers is pretty high but how much can speakers be... really?

They can be VERY expensive if you want them to be.

Seriously, what is your budget for your speakers/amp/sub? Give us a figure to work wit.

Well I'm not getting subs right now. Soon though just want to replace the speakers I got for Christmas. So my budget for speakers is like 150 I guess.

Can get a decent set of components and forego rear speakers for that amount. I'll let others chime in with suggestions. I'm not sure what the current price for Rainbow Soundlines is.

do yourself a favor and do a little reading before you start buying. money would be much better spent elsewhere, but first you need to understand proper system setup. for the price of 2 sets of $150 speakers you could pull off a nice budget hu/amp/front component setup.

Eh, personally CDT is a little bit of a harsh speaker. I prefer a smoother sound, but that's my preference. Plenty of people love CDT speakers.

I had those CDTs and loved them. the t25 silk tweeter is an 'upgrade' from what they usually put in their package. the T25 is still one of my favorites very smooth and not harsh at all. also they can surprisingly take alot of power. the only difference between those and my setup is i had the 540i upgraded Xovers but i don't think they will make a huge difference. also you get the free speaker wire which you'll need anyways and free shipping. it's a really a decent deal for $150 but as i'm sure others will say they like this brand over that. imo it's got to be one of the best bang for your bucks in the sub $150 price range.

djfrestyl: all CDTs are harsh speakers? their tweeters and their midranges?

Not all, I've found some tweeters a bit harsh. Just an opinion, music preferences are all subjective anyway.

They're very good. Pricing depends on which line you want to go with. The most popular are the SoundLines and the Germaniums. SoundLines are a bit cheaper. Shoot Don (Pearl96Max) a PM for pricing.
