Problem with Viper 160XV ('02 Maxima/I35)

I'm having a problem with my Viper 160 XV remote restart on my '02 I35. My 160XV will unlock my doors, but my alarm goes off when I open the door.

I do not think the factory alarm is disarming properly. Any advice? Does anyone have the correct diagram for a 2002 Infiniti I35?

exactly what wires did you grab for locks, and where?

Should be orange/black, orange/blue in the driver's door at the switch.

Mendon,

I'm going to take everything apart to check it out since I haven't looked under the dash in a while.

1. I believe I wired everything behind the dash... if I must run something to the switch at the door, how do you run the wires through the door jamb? A new hole?

2. Do I need any resistors for this? On 12volt, I tried looking up 2002+ Maxima wiring guides and I believe one of them said resistors are needed and another did not. Can you confirm?

No, you do not need any resistors. You definately grabbed the wrong wires if you never went into the door. Getting wires through the door jam is not an easy task if you've never done so before. IIRC, there is a molex plug on the 02 max's (they suck). You can either drill holes in the plug and run the wires through, or if its easier for you there may be a grommet you can remove to run the wires through the door jam wall and jump back into the harness on the door side. just make sure both sides are sealed and well insulated so they don't ground themselves out.. Try and use some wire loom.

Mendon,

I spent a lot of time on Saturday working on the remote start. I fixed the door lock/unlock issue and the factory alarm is arming and disarming properly.

Now my remote start doesn't work. It cranks for about a half second and then stops. I'm going to recheck all of my connections but I'm wondering if I need to do the tach learn procedure or something.

Any common mistakes for the starter cranking for about a half second but not completely starting?

its def possible that the tach needs to be reprogrammed. Did you check to make sure the key light isn't blinking when it cranks? could be a bypass issue as well. If not, try reprogramming the tach and we'll go from there.

Mendon,

Thank you for your help.

Just to clarify above in case anyone runs intp the same problem, I fixed the door locks by verifying the correct orange/black and orange/blue connections @ driver side door. After scratching my head for a while thinking I had a short somewhere between the brain and the soldered wires at the door harness, I did a direct connection from the brain to the door harness and it still would not lock the door properly.

I knew I had the double pulse unlock and single pulse lock set correctly, so I just couldn't figure it out. Finally I unplugged the white connection going into the brain to test the pins directly, and it worked! The white plastic insert had a loose connection. I pulled the lock wire from the plug and adjusted the metal clamps a little bit, reinserted it into the plug, and plugged it back into the brain and that fixed the door lock issue.

Now, I fixed the remote start issue. I followed the tach learn procedure according to the Viper manual and I couldn't get the LED to light solid to indicate a successful learn. I checked the tach wire and saw that it was not connected and taped at the end! My brother did a volt install, not a tach install. I made sure to configure the remote start to volt mode and set the crank at 1.0 second and now the remote start works flawlessly.

Thanks again Mendon, you've been patient with helping me realize what needed to be checked in order to find the problem.

Eh, i disagree to some extent. Newer cars that dont have much trouble cranking in extreme cold, voltage sense can be just as reliable. Also, cars like Ford and Honda I ALWAYS set to voltage, they have such dirty signals.
