Newbie Sub Enclosure question

Hey guys....

Sorry for the newbness of this question.

I have a 10" pioneer sub that I am buying an enclosure for. It recommends a cutout of 9 3/8" diameter. Most of the enclosures I am finding have a 9 1/8" diameter cutout, and a few have a 9 1/4" diameter cutout.

Do you think I will have a problem using an enclosure with either the 9 1/8" or 9 1/4" cutout? Im not sure how much leeway there typically is with the suggested dimensions.

Thanks in advance.

BTW......is there a newbie thread in the audio forum like there is in 5th gen? Might be a good idea for guys like me.

the basket won't clear the 9 1/4 or the 9 1/8 cutouts. they can work if you can find a way to widen the cutout a bit.

You might be able to just notch out the wood where the parts of the basket are hitting it. You could even do that with a Dremel if that's all you have. That way you don't have to worry about cutting the entire hole out for 1/8"...

EDIT: Now that I think about it - if the box is made for a 10", it will probably fit. You may have to push on it a little to get the driver to go in, but if you got the 9 1/4" box, that is only 1/16" on each side(~ the width of a jigsaw blade) you are trying to squeeze it into. It's wood after all, not steel. You also have to take into consideration that the measurments for the box/sub may not be exact, which is why I am willing to bet(someone elses' money) that if the box is for a 10" - your 10" will fit

Thanks for the thoughts guys. I was thinking that it may not be a problem because like you said MadMaxSE-L its only 1/16" on each side. I will take a look and see if theres any places around the basket that a small notch would require the extra 1/8" or so.

Thanks again.

Nothing a little elbow grease and some coarse grit sandpaper can't fix. Sand it open some and then try to "click" the sub into the box. Given that you go with the box that has the 9 1/4" cutout.
