I'm looking to upgrade my audio system from my stock non-bose system...I began by purchasing some new front & back door speakers.

the ones i got were 6 1/2 in Xplod xs-v1621 Sony 3-way speakers...will these fit my 1997 gxe maxima...or will I need slight modifications?

If you don't have the Bose system they should fit.

Well i looked at the insructions....I pretty much unders tood the removal of the door panel...but I'm a little confused on the wiring...
"There is a funky plug that connects to the factory speakers. Cut this off the end of the factory wiring, making sure to leave enough on the plug to reattach if you plan on saving the stock speakers for reinstallation if the car is sold."

As far as that, there's some kind of wire that only is used for stock speakers, and i won't need this wire for my aftermarket speakers?

"With the front wires, the solid color is the positive (+) and the half white is the negative (-). Using the crimping tool, crimp female disconnecting spades to the end of the wire. Slip them onto the terminals of the speaker, and attach the new speaker to the factory mount."

Now this is the confusing part...what exactly am i doing here...which wires of what speakers do i connect to where?

 

The speaker should have two connections on the bottom, one larger then the other. get two female plugs of appropriate size, crimp them on the wire, and connect the + to the big one and the - to the small one. then just mount the speaker and you're done.

 

you can also buy adapters that attach to factory wiring with the two separate connectors to attach to speaker
