Removed alarm horn = no start

How do aftermarket alarms typically go about keeping a car from starting? I removed the alarm horn and the alarm won't stop triggering. I'd prefer to completely remove the alarm than to put the horn back in.

Do alarms work passively or actively? If I cut out the brain of it will my car still not start?

Does an alarm have an always on signal saying its okay to start, and if its absent it wont start? Or does it do nothing until its activated?

the starter kill was probably engaged, and for whatever reason its now reset. When alarms are installed properly, the starter wire is opened with a relay. If you want, go into the underdash find the starter wire and cut it away from the alarm, reconnect it.
