swi-jack question

I just received it today, and was looking at the wiring diagrams.

I understand that I have to use the third harness behind the stereo.
2 wires go to the pac unit and the brown wire needs to be grounded for the trip computer to function, my question is how can I do this without hacking up the factory harness, can I get a female version of it somewhere?

You can either use T-Taps:

Or you can use these taps:

I have the 2nd ones in my car.

With the bottom one...

Place one wire from the harness in the 1st channel, place the wire from the PAC in the 2nd channel, squeeze the metal down with pliers, and then flip the cap over to cover. Takes 10 seconds to install, and directions will be more clear when you hold them in your hands...

I HIGHLY recommend using the 1st type posted. They are much easier than that other BS. You clamp it down to the wire then you put a male end onto the PAC wire and insert it. The problem withe first one is you have to deal with both wires simultaneously which, in tight spaces, can get awkward.

I went to radio shack and picked up some wire tap splicers...tried it with some wire and a multi-meter....works fine

next question is what is the best place to mount the swi box itself?

these are the ones I got

Mine is just in the back behind the radio. There is plenty of room back there. And with the bluetooth adapter, all the wiring for my stereo, and ipod there is no problems.

Is there a good place to secure it, did you use zipties, also did you use any kind of insulator(foam maybe) so the box doesn't rattle.

When I had my G35 I mounted the ipod adapter behind the factory stereo and I bought these foam pads to wrap the adapter in, will probably do the same with the swi-jack.

Thanks

I ziptied it out of the way, but that's as far as I went.
