Bastards

Why can't they (Sony, Eclipse, Kenwood, somebody) make a head unit with remote input controls for volume, tuning, etc. and a freakin harness so that I could use the steering wheel controls with an aftermarket radio. I know it doesn't seem like a big deal, but IT IS! It would be SO easy with not much additional expense to those guys.

My last 2 cars had steering wheel controls on them, and anytime I rent a car without them it drives me nuts.

Those guys better get used to the fact that these types of controls are becoming more and more common on cars since they are becoming less and less expensive to produce. This is the MAJOR reason I haven't upgraded my stock head units on my past 2 cars. And these new weird-size head units aren't helping either. I am TIRED of paying insane amounts of money for an upgraded system that still uses cr@ppy parts and paper cones.

UUGGHGHHHHH!!!!

Maybe wiring harness makers produce an interface for steering wheel controls. I don't see how it would be any different from the adaptors that they make for integrating an aftermarket HU with the Bose system- same kind of conversion, but probably simpler. Contact Scosche and P.I.E. to see if they do make or will make these.

There is an adapter made by Soundgate. It sells for about a $100. If you are interested, I can check if it will work with a Maxima and hook you up on a better price as well.
