Well, it looks like the user has an audio cable coming out of the front headphone jack. Splicing power is easy. But you would need a CarPC to control the IDE cable so that you can tell the deck which track to play.

 

so is he burning music while drivin too? lol! nerd.

 

not for nothin, but a head unit with a slide out tray like that would be pretty unique and interesting.

Funny thing is that he could have used the plug connected to the CDROM and plug it directly to his mp3 player instead of having to go through all that trouble...

 

ASSuming he has an mp3 player. I don't see one in the picture.

 

It will work, without the IDE cable, since it has a play and stop button on it, alot of the older roms are like that

 

I put a record player in a s10 pickup truck way back in the day. I havent seent he pics in years.

A lot of older CD-rom drives had a direct audio output on the back, and play/pause or even fastforward/rewind buttons on the front, to be able to play CDs. So it would definitely be feasible.

I used to have a 200w inverter in the car before my Maxima. At one point, the stereo in it broke, so I drove around for two weeks with a Sony radio (one of those large wooden ones from like the 80s) plugged into the inverter on my passenger seat. Pretty good tunes.

N00b, for using the front headphone port, coulda used the rear audio slot if u were pr0. Still sweet install brah, lol.

 

I have dreams about the Caravan I drove after I got my license and grew up in since age 7. In the dream it doesn't burn any oil and shifts fine, doesn't have the check EGR light on, or have ECM issues. Very comfortable van, but one of the most unreliable cars ever made.

 

Wonderful use of the duct tape. I knew those radios were good for something.
