Need Help on sub problem!

I have a 2000 maxima gle with a kenwood Hu which is relatively new but it does not recognize/not even use the bose sub. I really dont think the sub even works anymore but the amp and the rest of the cars stock bose speakers all still work. I really notice too that the stereo is pretty quiet i can turn the radio up to full volume and it wont be that loud. So anyone know whats going on?

Ditch the bose speakers and bypass the bose amp. The factory amp is your problem, it has limiters on it so you won't blow the crappy speakers. Also, if your unit doesn't have 4 volt outs this can limit your output as well. I'm assuming your using a metra 7551?

Thanks for helping Joeker, but I called up Kenwood and they helped me turn the sub back on, something was wrong with the settings in the HU.

There's no external control of the subwoofer on the maxima, in other words, you couldn't just turn on a setting in the HU to turn on the bose sub.

Either you had the rear speakers and sub getting signal from the sub output of the HU, or you just adjusted the settings to get more bass out of the system overall.

The 7551, was probably the wrong harness to use if it was the one used and you're having that volume issue.

I'm fully aware of HU's that can control subs. The BOSE does not have the capability of allowing the Kenwood to do it. It does NOT have seperate sub inputs for signal that it would need for the Kenwood sub control to actually function with it.

Kind of mind boggling, unless his HU has a rear/sub output rather than a separate rear output.

Sounds like something is jazz'd up. Since he didn't install it, I'd have to look at it.

Probably...

The 7551 is his volume problems. I had the same issue when I hooked up my alpine to the factory blose crap. You could turn it up all the way and it was faint. Actually come to think of it the audio side of that connector is still plugged in running to nothing in my dash! Lol! Ditch the blose speakers and run straight from the headunit. Then get yourself a amp and sub. Problem solved! (IMO)

Yeah haha, thanks for helping though guys but yes I do eventually plan on replacing those ****ty speakers and sub for something better when I get enough money. Btw Im still confused on how its really working too lol but all what matters is it works now so. Another thing though when I went to this place to get that Hu installed, i picked up my car and the alternator died about a block down the road and they claimed it wasn't their fault at all and it probably was just an old alternator (seems plausible kinda, but such a coincidence ya know?...lol)
