When I sit in the rear seat the only thing behind my head is the window. And I am only 5'7". Do you mean the vertical panel, or the horizontal panel, the rear deck? both can be damped fairly easily. But I no longer have the stock rear deck so don't no the secifics of the curves and what not. The panel between the rear seat and trunk can easily be removed and layered various ways to attenuate sound. I added a layer of fiberglass, a little carbon fiber and a couple layers of vynil damping material(cascade audio). One of these days I'm going to wrap it in fleece for a more finnished appearance.

"where is there a vertical panel????...also...how do i get the horizontal panel off?"
The vertical panel is directly behind the rear seat. It has a big square hole in it for "ski pass through." The deck lid - remove rear seat. Remove vinyl window pillar covers. Should have several push pins holding it down, possibly a couple speakers too.

If you're referring to the rear deck, mine doesn't rattle at all. It used to, but then I had the 3rd taillight removed since I already have one on my wing. I also had the little plastic vents removed since the whole thing was rewrapped in blue vinyl. The underside of the rear deck also has about 3 layers of dynamat extreme on it, so that helps.
