Issues with subs and/or amp.
I have 2 JL w3v3 12's that are 4 ohm subs in a sealed box and a pioneer 1200w mono d block amp.
Im running them at 2 ohms and im curious how bad this is for the speakers. They sound great, but recently the amp has been safe moding at any decent volume. So should i get 2 ohm subs if i want this wiring setup or can i modify something?

Wire in parallel for a final impedance of 2ohm....
Also, pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaseee get a new amp for these subs. They have so much potential and believe me, you won't be dissapointed in getting a better amp. Almost brings me to tears to see these beautiful subs being powered by a pioneer
. ****ty amplification will give you ****ty sound. Not busting on your system or anything but it has sooo much more potential and I want nothing but the best for you

nonono the sound is phenominal! its just that any amp i wire at 2 ohms cuts out... the lights on the amp barely dim for a second and then there is no sound. i would invest in a new amp if i thought it would fix it.
I'll see what i can do... i've had the amp for a little over a year now. But will running 4 ohm subs at 2 ohms cause problems like this?? Could something like a cap be helpful?
it's a GM-D8500M
pretty small... but man it can put out some sound!
WIRE YOUR SUBS IN PARALLEL FOR A FINAL IMPEDANCE OF 2 OHMS.
disconnect all RCA and speaker leads (keeping 12 volt power ground and remote leads in)
turn the amp back on
if the light comes on again...the amp has an internal fault.
if it doesn't, plug in the RCA's and reset the amp.
if the diagnostic LED shows up again then its a fault from the input (bad cables or source unit)
amazing what you can get from a google search....first result too!
Put some effort into this, no one from here is gonna come to your place and fix it for you and no one cares how much your amp 'pounds and hammers and what-not'.
anyway, good luck.

@tseng1023 thanks man i guess i was searching for the wrong thing or something. and i was simply replying to a previous post... not trying to boast and brag. but i would never let someone else work on my car unless it was 100% needed haha. Thanks for the input i'll try out all of my options

Well. As usual it was a simple fix and the last thing on my checklist. I checked all fuses, plugs, wiring, etc and no problems there. I got my hands on a new amp..... still did the same thing. bingo it's the head unit! i spent a good 30 minutes switching them out and whatnot and now, no problems! so watch out for the sony CDX-GT54UIW
