It's a 4ohm dvc and this is my amp http://www.teptronics.com/bmwx645.html

Wondering the best way to wire this up so I can get the best sound without burning up the sub or amp?

Is this correct,

That's correct.
Presenting a 2 ohm load to a 2 ohm stable amp should give ya maxima preformace.

Thanks, I'm good with audio setups but when it comes to the Ohms and stuff I get wicked confused.

Got the sub installed a slotted box and it hammers HARD. I though my 2 12s were loud but this thing is nuts. I can give myself a nice massage with the right song.

OK so I smoked the sub. Too loud too long. I was going to get another one and just be smarter with it..... But I was wondering if I replaced the 4ohm dvc with a 2ohm dvc would it be easier on my amp?

How do you have your amplifier set up? Unless you have a faulty sub, if the gains were set correctly, this should not have happened. Are you using the bass boost on the amp?

The amp is bridged to 2ohm, The bass boost is turn all the way down. Stupidly I had the gain on full and was playing some bass heavy music for a good amount of time and seemed to have melted the coils.... The sub slowly locked up and started smoking. I knew better than to operate it like that. I'm all for getting the same sub because it was probably the cleanest deepest sub I've had, just didn't know if the 2ohm sub would be any better.

Get the 2 ohm dvc, wire it to 4 ohms, bridge the amp to it. You will get less output. It will be "safer."

Here's my replacement sub.... Gotta say this sub ridiculous, so loud it gives you anxiety and shakes your eyeballs.

The capacitor isn't keeping up with the sub. The voltage still dips down to the low 11s. I'm batting the idea of another yellow top in the trunk or looking into a higher amperage alternator.

The capacitor is hurting you. As soon as it drains (1second at most) then the alternator is trying to charge the capacitor and power the system.

As second battery is never a bad idea (as long as it is installed properly)

So I should try uninstalling the cap first and see how it goes?

If you are still using the 600w rms amp, you don't need a cap. Sell it, or throw it away.
Set your gains properly, only use the bass boost minimally if you have to.
Upgrade your grounds. That is the biggest cause of dimming. That is the amp to the chassis, and the chassis and alternator to the battery.

Caps were useful in the 80s when amps didn't have them on board. Now all you really need/want is a small cap to clean up the current, not supplement the battery.

I have two of those exact same subs in my trunk..but the car rattles so bad it almost ruins the experience.

I'm running a true 1500 watt amp and dimming is minimal.
So I would take Drvr's advice and improve your ground and see what happens.
