Best Speaker Combo for 5th gen

you all know that 5th gen has door-mounted speakers only. I am looking to replace all 4, and my GXE didn't come w/tweeters. I have bass coming from 2x10" MTX in the rear. What's the best sounding combo..My choices:
Front doors:
2-way component speaks. w/tweeters
2-way speakers only
3-way component speakers w/tweeters (if there is such a combo)
3-way speaks

Rear:
2-way speakers
3-way speakers

I saw tweeters sold separately on the internet for as low as 12 bucks. If I buy those and wire to front-door 2-or 3-way, do I need a crossover or smthg like that?

front get..2-way component speaks. w/tweeters, mine is exactly like yours.. no tweeters.. but I just mount the tweeter at the A pillar, right inside of the side view mirror. Back.. just get some nice 3-way, cuz you can't really hear the back anyway since you are not planning on adding a amp to it. Yes you need cross over for tweeter, it is there for a reason.. to seperate the highs and lows.. but when you buy a componenet set.. it should come with it already

Upfront varys...some like a mid and a tweet. some like a midbass midrange and tweet. Its up to you. THe rear just a small mid.

Just replacing stuff i say go 6.5 up in the door, tweet in the a piller, and in the rear door a 4.

By the way max 2000. The a piller is not the mirror cover that you mentioned it's in front of that.

thanks, boyz. I would like to have stronger mids and high, 'cause I'm running a sub in the trunk. What kind of a speaker is good for that-brand and model number, and how much is a good deal on that?

I say go with a 6.5 and tweet up front then. Which to go with depends on money and amps. How much?

Thats not much. look on ebay and see what you can find, for that. Bring the list back here and i'll tell ya about what you have found.

personally I say forget about that back. Put say 200 bucks all into the front. Maybe say screw it and speed 300 bucks on the front alone. Nothing in the rear. For that you could have somthing pretty solid.

agree... in my old car.. I just left my rear speakers stock.. you can't really hear it anyway with the bass on the back.... why not put 200 for the front.. and leave the back stock...

I have just checked ebay out. The're are component speakers priced around 50 bucks! But they differ in the mounting specs as well, like depth? And if I want to mount my tweeters in the corner of the door, is that called flash-mount?
Gee, it is tough to trust someone over the ebay..sh** why everything is so damn expensive.

I woun't worry a whole lot about the depth of the door driver. In most cases a new mounting plate can be made to acomadate the depth.

For the tweet you will probley end up surface mounting it. But you could flush it if you want. Flush means you run your hand over it theres no bump where the tweet is. Where as surface it kinda sticks out slighty. That make ssence?

What did you find?

thank you max'n'out. So far I did some h/w and found staff on ebay like clarion, mb quaRTS, ranging from 60 to 90 bucks. I also went to yahoo.shopping.com to just type in the model number and see competing merchants selling the same item. I need to do more h/w as its not easy for me to shell out 100 bucks I need to have some confidence I'm not getting POS.

Of what you listed quart is the best. Great reliablility. Great clean sound. Some will tell you the tweeter is to much but there wrong. Clarion is ok they used to be real nice but have steadily gone down hill.

On another note 100 bucks for some speakers in todays market is not much.

I hear you...Well, I decided to get a components for front, and leave the back alone for now. One lesson I learned is not to rush with the purchase. I might check at the local fleamarket or see if anyone here on the .org is selling a set. Just dont see myself spending over 100 bucks for a set at this point.

I really think in the end you will be happer if you would decide to spend say 200 bucks all on the front. look around and try to find a great deal on a decent set for that. But just a suggestion.

one thing about ebay is to check the seller's rating... I have the same problem with ebay also... don't trust it too much.. just make sure you pay by CC... so if you do get burn (like me... ) you get your money back

i had an ebay acct and then cancelled it...too much b.s. going on around there, too complex to understand, and too little info on many items.

re: speakers, I'll buy only if I get a deal I can't pass, this can wait.
