(length of base + length of top)/2 X depth X height

What ever the shape, just use your geometry and trig rules. If you have a complex curve you may have to use some calc, or estimate. There are also a lot of tricks to estimating.

do you mean

top width(front to back)+bottom width(front to back)
--------------------------------------------------- divided by
2x length(side to side) x height(top to bottom)

Assuming top and bottom are parallel?90 angle corners ?

TopWidth
{ }
--------
| \
H | \ What about the face?
| \ how do you calculate the height?
|___________\

{bottom width}

???

Length of base?

I meant what I said. That is for a traditional trapezoid with parallel top and bottom. The only differnce between the top piece of wood, and bottom piece of wood, is the width. Height is a strait line, measure with tape measure. Actually, these are all strait lines. The face, all you need is the height. Since width is determined by (width(1) + width(2)) / 2

Remember, volume is L X W X H. Width of bottom and top are different in trapezoid, so use the formula for average width.
