Is it possible? Of course I have seen 4 15"s in a Max before
Will it break the windows? Depends on how loud you like your music.

It depends on the subwoofer and the power given to them. Say 4 Sony Xplode 12's fed their reccomended power....that probably's couldnt break a piece of drywall, never mind glass. However you put say 4 12" Cerwin Vega Strokers or Digital Designs 9512's, with like 1200wrms each, and you are guaranteed to do a lot more than just break the windows.

Doing this for SPL competition or to impress your friends? If its the latter, I say not 4 12's but 3 10W6's will give you whiplash with as little as 600 CLEAN watts but would sound even better with 900 watts. You will NOT break a window and you WILL impress your friends and give them headaches. Remember, before you do ANYTHING ... Dynamat. You'll gain as much as 3dB (twice as loud) just by dynamatting your trunk.

It's dual duals. If you see the rest of the car, you'll know how ugly that thing is.

Another good point. 2 12"'s with CLEAN power and ported (effecient) will give a nice low roll off. Add some 8's or 10's in the cabin for punch and you have a good sound stage.

Anything more than 2 12"'s is either for Sound Pressure Competition or Rice burning (Yeah, well I HAVE 6 15"'s!!!; I love hearing that).

My friend Jamie has 4 15's in his Benz SL and it's for SPL comp. You don't even sit in the car during comp...

2 woofers smaller than 15" but larger than 8" run the most effeciently in a simple ported or sealed enclosure.

I currently have two MTX 4000 series 12" subs running on a Kenwood 600 amp (200rms/channel)... I am going to add two more MTX 4000 series 12" subs and another Kenwood 600 amp... all in seperate enclosures, two facing the front and two facing the rear of the trunk... (and yet, rice does not become a question to me)...

No need for all that space to be wasted......

...One JL W7 is the equivalent to Three JL W6's, in any equal size. I recently helped install 2 W7's in a pathfinder and we broke the rear window at like half their power.

Kid, running W7's are like loading nuclear rounds in a rifle.

Those subs are the s**t...

Remind me to talk to you about this at the O-town meet on Saturday ... I have some experience with this and may be able to offer some good advice.

See thats sweet then. The only thing I used to hate about getting subs was losing all my truhnk space. You should put up pictures after it is done to show us.

6db is twice as loud. 3db is 50% louder.

Doubling the wattage going to a sub raises the noise 3db.

2x Power = 1/2 x louder = 3Db.

But yes, Dynamat really helps. Alot cheaper than buying 2x more juice.

I'll have to check that out, but as far as I remember, 3dB is twice as loud. You could be right, I certainly am not discounting your theory - I will just ask around on my car stereo team and get back to ya

BTW, nice rims

I know for a fact that 3 db is not twice as loud. I am pretty sure (80%) that 10 db, not 6db is twice as loud. 3db can be gained by doubling the power or adding another sub. Also you may not necessarily double the loudness by adding more power if the xmax of the sub isn't sufficient to handle the cone movement.

No comment. I suggest you go do some research before posting bs like this. Even better, how about you go to radio shack and buy an spl meter. Measure 3db increments and then tell me its twice as loud, and I'll shut up. My guess that if you start playing something at 120db (which is about a rock concert volume level) and end at 135db you should be deaf, as that would be 32x louder.

I have 4 12" JL W3's in my max with 2 Xtant amps running to them. It didn't break my windows so i doubt anything else would break the windows.

A little snippy are we? How about this "... 3dB is the theoretical doubling in loudness, yet 6dB is the percieved
(what you THINK is twice as loud).." Straight from the mouths of my car stereo team. If you want me to I can ask Alma Gates ... she is on the team after all ...

As long as you think theoretically that every 3db is doubling loudness in your head thats fine with me......just don't go deaf.

Taken from http://www.prorec.com/prorec/article...256904007DFFC0

<Begin Quote>
How many decibels louder is a sound if you crank it up to be twice as loud?

Easy! Let PA be the sound pressure level after you've cranked it up. Let PB be the original SPL. If (PA / PB) = 2, then
20 log (PA / PB) = 20 log (2) = 6.0206 dB

which is damn close to (a mathematical term, meaning "approximately") 6 dB. We can therefore say that, as a rule of thumb,

--->An increase of 6dB of a sound means "twice as loud."<----

This is a pretty handy thing to remember! If you are boosting a signal by 6 dB, that means you're doubling the amplitude. Conversely,
A decrease of 6 dB of a sound means "half as loud."
<End Quote>

I also have other resources I can find proving my point if you don't believe that.

THANK YOU.

I'll be here all week.
