Stereo Question

I will be installing a completely new system in my 99max. I needed to know if this is a good setup.

Kicker 6.5 2 ways - For the rear
Kicker S12L5 subwoofer
Alpine CDA-7977
Clarion 4x400watt amp

I still need suggestions for a set of speakers for the front and I need a amp to push the Sub efficiently.

Did you already buy this equiptment? Im not a big fan of Clarion amps...that would be my first change. If spending the money on an L5 why not just spend a little more for the L7? Alpine radios are pretty good, nothing bad from me on that one ! Finally Kicker makes good subs and amps but they havent been known for theyre highs. As far as the front speakers....If ya decide to stay with Kicker look into theyre Resolution Components I believe its RS6, and ZX and ZR amps. Feel free to ask more questions if ya got em....

6.5 for the rear but nothing for the front?????? Forget that put that in the front. If your doing kicker speaks for the rear for sure go to kicker for the front too. Do not try mixing and matching.

4x400???????

Why not look into kicker amps or alpine, i'm not a fan of a bunch of different kinds of equipment, in the same car though it does work and theres nothing wrong with it, it's just a pet peave.

Thanks for your help!

I got the S12L5 for $150 brand spankin new - thats why I got it over the L7
I got the Kicker 6.5 for $45 in the box originally $160
- I will Look into getting those Resolution you were talking about.
I got 2 of the Clarion 4.400 for $200($100 each)
Working on a deal to get a Rockford Punch 500.2

The money is the only reason I have those particular pieces. So I guess I should rethink the clarions and maybe get 4 channel Rockford for the inside speakers as well.

Well...I understand your money situation, but I am even less of a fan of Rockford.Especially on highs. They are not the cleanest amps. Contrary to what SOME may say. Just keep one thing in mind...In car audio bigger is not always better. Look more into Quality then Quantity.

What do you suggest for the L5 and what do you suggest to push kicker 6.5? Money really isnt an issue, It was just that I thought they were pretty good deals so I took'em.

Look into the Kicker ZR and ZX series amps. They are 2001 one models so they may be slightly discounted.

Alright heres a deal for ya. I have my old Zapco amps sitting here (zapco Z-200's) 3 of them. That would work great to run the mids tweets and subs. If your interested let me know.

I HEARD it doesn't matter what AMP you get, as long as it had the proper wattage and passes (4x, 2x, etc.) and that it doesn't matter if it's used or not cause they never like go bad or something...well, if this is the case, then I was going to get the cheapest one on ebay wit the wattage i wanted....if this is NOT true, then i guess for one i'll be staying away from clarion.....

Depends how you look at it. Let me tell you this...It does not matter what kind of car you have as long as it has 4 doors one seat, and gets from one place to another. So you can sell the max, and get a pinto.

See my point?

Used vs new? Depends how used, and how old, if you compare an amp from 1971, and a new zapco, well, you see where i'm going. Wattage is one thing to look at but it depends on what your looking to get out of the amp and how critacal your gonna be for what other features and specs you need to look at.

To add to the last post...wattage matters to an extent. Quality is the MAIN factor. Say you take a 'pyramid' amp that says itll give you 1000watts. Does this make it true? Absolutely not! Especially when the fuse that it takes is a 30amp. This is not physically possible. Compare it to...OK lets say a Zapco 150watt amp...Well there is no comparison. The Zapco will win. The amp is one of your stronger points in a system. IF you are going to take a shortcut, take it on the sub amp rather than the one to your highs. Your highs are the most sensitive part of your system. Reproducing sound through a dirty amp will definately be heard through them, no matter what kind they are.

My Zapco AG 750 (has 750 watts) is only 320 dollars.
I run one IDMAX 1000 watts, which prooves that the amp can give up to 1000 RMS easily! Love this toy.
